Relocating Speakers On A Doorless XJ?

Took my front and rear doors off today.

Looking for ideas on where to wire up some new speakers so i can listen to some tunes while driving around doorless, and was looking for input. I'm going to put two speakers (on on each side) in the kickpanel and wire that up.

The rear doors have speakers as well (i think) and i want to replace those as well. Any ideas on some crafty places to put two speakers back there? I was thinking about putting two (on on each side again) in the center console. Mount the wires under the thing you toss all your stuff in, and make them look neat. (i was thinking that since you sit right next to this though, the sound would sound weird. Maybe i'm just crazy.)

Also what size are the two rear speakers? I want to get better speakers in the rear anyways as one of them is already shot.

This. Sound bar up front and in back, or kick panel front with sound bar in back. Some guys mount speakers in the tailgate, but that's more difficult and can make it hard for the gate to stay up due to the extra weight.

No matter what you do, the sound imaging/quality will suck, but XJ's suck for sound to begin with. Since you're going doorless, I doubt you care about that stuff anyway. I'd personally go with a sound bar front and back because legroom sucks the way it is without speakers sticking out of a kick panel.

Even if you don't buy from them, use Crutchfield.com to get loads of info about car audio--they have a bunch of reference material in addition to being a store. You can input your year-make-model, and they'll show you everything that fits and even make mention of things that will fit with slight modifications if it interests you. IF you order from them and have provided your vehicle info, they'll often provide installation accessories for free along with a very easily understood master sheet of instructions specifically tailored to your vehicle. Their customer service is excellent.

i had an extra set of 3.5" speakers laying around so i put them in the lower dash on the far left and right...you cant see them and it actually looks like there are supposed to be speakers there in the first place behind the slits...sounds really good as well

In older XJs, there WERE (at least optionally) speakers there. Tweeters technically. It's a terrible place for a tweeter, but it's a place nonetheless, and 3.5" speakers would fit in there. 3.5" isn't good for much but high-mid frequencies and higher and should have bass blockers installed if not crossovers, but it's something.

This is all irrelevant to the OP though because he/she has a post-facelift XJ with a completely different dash/interior
