I recently got a 95 bone stock yj and I'm desperate to begin my build to make my jeep my own. I'm only 17 so I'm running on a moderately tight budget and I don't have much of an idea to what I'm doing revolving around working on jeeps. I'll add more details in the post below.

And all I do know (which is very little) has came from researching everything I could from this forum. My initial plan is to put on a 4 inch lift to go with some 33s. I've read several places and have seen people with problems of having to replace axles to accommodate the new wheels, brake lines, sway/traction bars etc. I don't plan on any kind of rock crawling just the occasional "mudding" with friends as this jeep is my daily driver. Any help will be greatly appreciated! 😄

As a Jeep novice who is currently "restoring" a second YJ, my main advice would be to do things right the first time, you'll save time, money and aggravation in the long run.

I've cut corners many times, and can't think of a time when I didn't have to go back and fix what I "fixed".

You can build any jeep on a budget it just takes time.

You are going to want to make a solid plan and stick with it. Don't go cheap at all!! The most expensive single purchase you'll make will be a SYE followed by a 1" daystar body lift which I highly suggest especially for a mudder. Lot easier to wash.

I have a 92 with the 2.5 and 30inch tires. it is more capable than I thought it would be.
things iv done that I recommend.
adios the track bars .
do the (headlight relay mod).
cut your fender flairs to allow more room.

Umm when I started out I had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted. I Cathy the bug tho and kept building and spending $$. Like others said, buy quality parts. Do it once. Do it right. Also, my biggest piece of advice is to build it to do what u like to do whether it be muddin, crawling, etc. I prefer crawling rocks/dirt so I kept that in mind when I put things together.

Thanks for all the help guys. Really looking forward to getting this project started, sounds like its really important to take your time and get the right quality mods the first time around. Right now I'm just trying to get the jeep looking good, then whenever I get a job, start the real fun stuff! What kind of a setup would be better for a trail riding and mudding ride versus rock crawling?

Start off with craigslist and harbor freight. CL for parts and HF for tools. You can get lots of inexpensive tools to do your own work on the YJ. (don't buy a welder from them) Take care of the maintenance, then mod as you wish. Get some trail time in, you'll be surprised how well even a stock YJ can do and how much beating it can really take.

I would do maintenance, then 3.5" lift with 1/2boom shackles, 33s, some rock sliders, front and rear bumpers. Go from there...

I have a 1988 jeep yj. I have had it for about a year now. I'm 16 and I'm always doing something to it. I currently have a 2 inch lift with a 3 inch body lift sitting on 33s. My budgets pretty tight as well. Unless you have any immediate problems that need to be taken care of you can get a nice lift at http://www.jeep4x4center.com/?gclid=CLqDsJuBsLUCFc6DQgod90MABg. All in all it's going to runn you around 1,700k once you get tires and rims.
