I just received my new CJ to YJ Conversion with Old Man EMU LEAF springs from Rocky Road Outfitter. So far the instructions are pretty good however, I notice on the springs there are markings that indicate orientation? I don't know. Can anyone tell me if there is a certain direction these springs need to be installed? The instructions don't say.

did you get these along with RRO's crappy SOA kit? or are theses simply replacing your stock springs in the stock SUA form? Also, did you get 4 or just 2?

The larger eye goes in the fix spring hanger. It hard to tell from the picture but the angled shim is most likely for the rear spring with the think part of the shim facing forward along with the larger eyelet. Sometimes front spring had a shim as well to correct caster but I would be surprised to see it on a two inch lift. The large eyelet on the front spring will face backward.

From the numbers printed on the spings they look to be rear heavy load. Remember when you mount the fronts you will need to turn thr shim around other wise you will end up with negitive caster. You may need to add a shim to the front. Thre is a thread on here that has detailed instructions on the shim that was needed.

Waterdawg is correct. Those are the rear medium/heavy springs. It's common to put them on all 4 corners.

Definitely turn the shims 180, so that the thick end points forward, on the fronts. Those shims are 1.5-2 degrees. You will probably need 4-6 degree shims, however, to get enough caster.

Good luck,

Matt

Dragging up an old thread for future searches... If using the heavy OME springs on both the front and rear , orientation is as follows ( I confirmed this with ARB as RRO could not answer with a degree of confidence )

Regardless if the springs are marked O , + or - ( will explain these later on )

For rear installation the arrow points to the front of the vehicle

For front installation the arrow points to the rear of the vehicle

Summed up , the spring side with the arrow is always mounted opposite of the shackle.

Now to the O , + or - markings

These reference OMEs standards.
If the spring is ,marked
O. It is dead on OMEs spec for that spring. To be a O it must be within 2% above or below the spec..
+ the spring past the standard rating. 2 to 4% of the standard. Anything over 4% is rejected and thrown away
- the spring anywhere from 2 to 4% BELOW the standard. Anything below 4% is rejected...

Hope this helps someone out on future searches!!
