Bro trucks

What is the attraction to them? I guess I don't get it.

The "boy racer" I kind of get, with a small "fast" car that gets decent mpg.

The "rally car" guys I understand because their cars usually have turbos and are AWD so they are good in the snow, and better on gas than SUVs.

Granted, I would never buy the above vehicles but I see why people might have them.

Bro trucks:

Expensive to buy.
Expensive to own and maintain.
Most who own them never use them as a truck.

There are a growing number of them around here. They are all huge lifted diesels, usually blacked out, with straight pipe exhausts, and the need to blow smoke in everyone's face. They also rarely obey traffic laws, and like to race each other. There is a problem around here with them driving over medians as well as the front lawns and landscaping of local businesses.

I like a diesel truck as much as the next guy (drove one for work in highschool), but I wouldn't buy one unless I needed it. I don't tow or plow, diesels are expensive to buy and fix, and diesel is more expensive than 93 octane gas in my area.

My friend just bought a 2003 Duramax. Keep in mind the only thing he puts in the bed is beer cans, and he doesn't haul anything or tow. Its lifted, beat to hell, the wiring is crap on it, the engine stalls for no apparent reason, the transmission is slipping and needs a rebuild, and it has almost 200k miles. Oh and it was a former plow truck. He took out a loan to buy it, and thinks its awesome. This is the same guy who complained the gas mileage sucked in his PAID OFF 5.2L ZJ Grand Cherokee.

Am I missing something?

Oh, it's not a "budget" build? that show cracks me up.

"And we threw these brand new dynatrac dana 60s under this jeep that we just so happened to find in the junkyard"
The show may shot on lala land with its budgets, and Ian may be able to break glass when he hits then high notes when he talks... But it is informative. I've learned quite a few things from watching it.

Don't forget people who mod their vehicles into rolling deathtraps, we have to share the roads with these idiots.
The roads and the offroads. Ive seen aome rigs that are crazy dangerous to wheel...crazy even to turn the engine on

Theres this guy that works at the VW dealer down the street from the dealer I work at with a lowered GTI. It's got the whole "stance" thing going on, gray primer paint, illest sticker, autocross tow hook and a big sideways sticker that says "OMGMKIV"
Here's what the drivers all look like

My little brother drives a brodozer. He also wears flat-brimmed hats and listens to Nickelback. :(

To his credit, he built the entire thing himself and, for what it is, it's really well done. White F-150 on 9" (IIRC) of lift and 37"s. It's just...he is not a known posessor of taste.

There was briefly a plague of brodozers up here, but they seem to have disappeared quickly. The big mod craze right now is building Wranglers, and I am totally OK with it, since they're usually decently done.

Yea... It's kind of like the fat chick who lives around the corner. You aren't trying to get caught with her, but you know she'd be a good time.

Obviously we dont NEED stuff for our jeeps, but the stuff we buy serves us a purpose. Like lifts. They increase offroad capability, and since most of us go offroad, it serves us a purpose. A lift for a bro truck is pointless other than looks because they dont take their trucks offroad.

Yes, it kind of does.

The only motive the owners of these trucks have is to draw attention. This is evidenced by the fact that it's a trend that serves no functional purpose. The only way someone wouldn't understand why many people are annoyed by others going to the extremes for attention is if they like to draw attention themselves.

And many Jeep owners including many on this forum are guilty of doing the same thing.

Funny thing is, most of those ricers bellow out more smoke than them bro trucks do cause the owner is too stupid to realize what an oil change is.
my naturally aspirated 850 goes faster than a typical rice bucket and that thing is slooooooooow. Sucks, because I used to like Honda cause of the superb mpgs and godlike reliability the have. They are good for grocery getting and daily commute, not being revved 9000 rpms every 5 seconds.

One day, I might get a turbo mkIII Supra with a 1JZ engine and show those stupid kids what a tuner really is.
