Saw this on the YJ forum and thought it might be fun to try here

Wait, you guys are just now finding that out?
Really. I figured that one out the very first time I put gas in it.

What did you guys think that big bracket on the back of the door was for?

I found out within 5 minutes of buying my ZJ, when I went across the street from the previous owner's apartment, and filled it with gas for the first time. Have you people never driven American trucks before?

When you try to get a small trim panel off, to get to the electronics behind it, only to find that the one small panel is held in place by the entire rest of the interior.

I noticed mine on my first zj right away. But even if I didn't.. I live in Jersey so I'd have a good excuse why I wouldn't know it's there

When your mom recommends a mechanic to get something fixed that you just don't have the time to do, and while you're skeptically pulling into his lot, you lay your eyes on a pristine 5.9. You ask him how much and he laughs and goes "never, that's mine." And you immediately have full trust in this man with your zj.

All mine did. Actually, even my Japanese trucks did.

EDIT:

When you get kicked out of your house and you're glad you bought a Jeep with a spacious, enclosed rear end and a good heater.
Told the girlfriend about this gas cap holder business on JF. She laughed and said she found hers pretty quickly on her old Zj, then i walked outside to discover one on her Isuzu trooper, which she had no idea about.

And
Why did car makers start putting gas caps on the passenger side? Is that a jap thing because of their RHD (which would make that the drivers side)?

Most Japanese cars and trucks have their gas caps on the right side, because that's the driver side in Japan. The Isuzu Rodeo comes to mind as an exception.

My fiance's Taurus has it on the passenger side.
As far as the Taurus goes, I have no idea. Ford dicking around again I suppose.

If you're on the road and run out of gas which side do you want to be standing on to fill it up, side with 60mph traffic driving by or other side of the vehicle. Safety my friend, some people don't pay attention to how much gas they have. Its not a jap thing either, lots of gm vehicles do it.

this leaves a secondary issue though... look at when someone with a passenger side gas cap pulls into a gas station with a bunch of people with the cap on the drivers side

someone is gonna be pointed the wrong way

not to mention anyone who doesn't pay attention to their gas gauge is likely to not have a gas can (empty or full) in their car and they end up either waiting for someone to bring them some gas, waiting to be towed to a gas station, or pushing the car to a gas station if one is nearby

my experience (again) today

everytime you go to find parts for something to fix, you start listing all the projects you need/want to do

wallet hates me

and yes my mechanic knows my phone number and zj without a second thought
