I have an 87 cheroke. Wjen i first bought the jeep i lmew the fourwheel drive wasnt working do to the linkage. After replacing the linkage and the bushings it worked great but when i went out on the trails i coulsdnt get the four wheel drive to engage i positive my transfer case is good i heard the actuator housing could be bad now is the housing on the front axle the whole unit or is there another actuator somewere else
no. 4wd is controlled by your t-case and only your t-case. this mod simply takes the 2-piece shaft and makes it essentially a 1-piece shaft. Jeep did away with the silly CAD design in the early 90s and all Jeeps since have come with a 1-piece shaft.
the only downfall is that if your front driveshaft ujoints are bad, they will vibrate at speed. not really a downfall though, since if they need to be replaced, you should replace them.
Pete M you are one slick son of a gun, you steal all the posts that i might actually be able to help with. And as for you BryceBrown, listen to the man.
