I am getting ready to tint my windows, but am debating whether to just match the factory tint on the back windows to the front and brow, or going darker in the back and like 35% on the front and brow...
I'm in Arkansas and I know that the law here says:
• Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 5 inches.
• Front Side Windows Must allow more than 25% of light in.
• Back Side Windows Must allow more than 25% of light in.
• Rear Window Must allow more than 10% of light in.
I have a 08 Avenger with 35% all around and have never had any issues with the LEO's since I bought it new.
Also, does having the back window tinted have any impact on the auto-dimming mirror?
I'm just trying to get some opinions, both good and bad.. :2thumbsup:
In Texas, we can essentially have any tint that we want, on the rear and side windows. Fronts must not be less than 25%. For me, I have always gone the darkest that I could go on all the windows, except the windshield. I do not like eyebrow tint, that is what sunglasses are for and the drop down visors if need-be. I don't look out my side windows, except the fronts and the rear I can see just fine through limo-on-top-of-factory-tint. I don't like people looking at me when I am in my vehicles hence the darkest I can go legally. All that said, very dark tint can be scary for LEOs because they/we cannot see in thus I sometimes feel like a hypocrite because of that.
On my WK2 I do not have it but on the '12 Explorer, before the Jeep, I had the auto-dim mirror along with limo on the rear windows, the mirror still functioned the same as before the aftermarket tint. But I turned it off after a while because I would rather see something coming up behind me than to have it too dark and get hit or not see an emergency vehicle behind me that needs to get through.
I just had this done today, 20% tint on the front. Note that it's very difficult to get the tint to properly adhere to the "dot matrix" you will find along the edges and center brow of the OEM windshield.

I bought my GC with 15% tint on the front windows in SC, and when I took it to be inspected here in NC I was told it had to go. We ripped it off at the inspection station so I could pass. Let me tell you...cleaning that adhesive off the windows is not fun.
Here in NC we can only go to 35% on the fronts, but as dark as we want in the back.
I plan on going with legal tint on the front doors only. That works best here in TN. If I lived in AZ or Fla I would go darker. The problem with darker on the front doors is seeing well at night. That could become a legal issue if you get in an accident.
In Arizona 35% is legal on the front side windows. I did 50% cuz I don't like to be legal, plus the rear privacy glass is = to 50% (i was told) and I wanted to to look the same all around.
In Ohio it is 50% for the front driver and passenger window. 75% for the windshield, and anything you want on the rest of the windows. A problem with putting tint on a rear window is the window defroster might interfere with the tint because of the heat it generates.
Never heard of that nor have I had it happen to me. Tint removal might damage the wires if one isn't aware of the wires and cuts one. Most rear defrosters operate around 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit, from my experience. The windows in my WK2 heat to much higher than that everyday between April and October and have never had issues with the rear, defroster-tinted-window.
I was told 50% so this is what I did. I only had my front 2 side windows done in 50% (not legal in AZ) and had no tint added to the rear side or back window. It looks pretty even to me. See below, I also do not like the eyebrow tint on the winshield either. looks 80's to me...
What brand is your tint, AZ? Brand also is a factor. I have Suntek and I think it matches mine well. I have used them before with great results, no issues ever.
I did my front two windows today, this is Solar Gard Ultra Performance Series, nanotechnology, blah, blah. I'm not sure of the %, this place did my other trucks and I'll do the wrangler there too, but light years ahead of where it was yesterday. It was $80 for the two windows. Took about 15-20 minutes.

Hello want to tint the driver's and passenger's windows to match the tint of the rear ones on a 2014 GC Overland. Can somenoe advice what is the matching tint level and color to look for (no restrictions on tint here in Greece). Also is anyone familiar with Lumar tint products that you could advice on the exact product code.
Heres a pic. Like I posted on the first page, 5% all around (rear windows have factory PG) and 35% entire windshield. High quality film it cost me $280 installed.
I went with 20% on the fronts last time when my vehicle had factory tinted rears and it always looked too light. So this time I went with 15% and it matches the rears perfectly.
My 20% fronts are a numerical match for the rears. They often appear slightly lighter than the rears (which can help when cops see it) because the windshield lets a lot of light into the front of the car. When I have a sunscreen in the windshield the whole car looks blacked out (no sunscreen in photo).
I don't see the point in a tinted windshield. And 5% everywhere else is just dangerous no matter what window it is. But hey...drivers don't see emergency vehicles as it is with clear windows!
They don't? The drivers just do not pay attention to their surroundings and texting. I personally think a window tint is necessary on the front driver and passenger side windows, heck even a light tint on the front could be worth it.. To each is their own. It may be helping to prevent cancer. My father in law ha a spot on his left arm because he used to always rest his arm on the top of the door while driving.
This was sent while not driving.. Lol

Keep in mind that there is a difference between allowable light transmission % and the actual window tint darkness % once applied. Example : here in Ohio it's factory only the windshield /50% driver & passenger and whatever you want on the rear. With that being said your vehicle glass has a blueing or a bronzing that is used in the glass formula from PPG or whom ever that formulates the glass and that is roughly 5-12% shaded so if you get 50% on the fronts here in OH , well your breaking the legal limit of allowable light transmission putting you at 45-38% depending the manufacture of the glass and you will get stopped by OSP.
Just wanted to pass that along
