18JUN2012 - First Ride

Bought the ZJ about a week before this. The weather was nice, so I took it out for a ride. Upto this point, the ZJ was going to be my disposable ride. I am leaving Alaska in a year so I wanted a throwaway vehicle. But, I had so much fun off-roading that day that I got hooked and decided to keep it.

the problem is that i ended up flooding it. and i guess the previous owner had a cat. the smell didn't come out until things got wet. then the entire jeep smelled like cat piss so i had to rip everything out.

30JUN2012 - Camping Trip

At about 10pm one night, I was bored. So I packed my things and went camping. I find a cool spot but eventually I couldn't go any further and turned around. I vowed to lift my jeep asap. Found a nice spot by the river, started fire and read for awhile. It was a nice relaxing night.

Everything was fun and I had a great time, until the ride back. There was a leak in the differential, and I drove it dry for about 50-60 miles at highway speed. Not good. My differential got grenaded so i had to pull an axle from a junkyard.

5AUG2012 - Lift

i didn't bring the camera the first day, so i didn't get any 'before' pictures in.

also, new tires coming soon!!!

how are spacers for off-roading? someone was telling me that it adds additional point of failure and it's just better to get new wheels.

also, i took it by the hose and got on my hands and knees with a scrub brush and carpet soap. scrub and rinse and repeat several times. got the smell out. and i actually got to learn a lot about the wiring under the carpet. also took the opportunity to paint the center console and it turned out better than i expected.

19AUG2012 - XFER CASE SWAP + MISC WORK

finally swapped my 249 with 242 today!

then i decided to trim my fenders a little bit to get ready for my 33"

picking them up as soon as the i receive the wheel spacers from kolak. hopefully that will be thu/fri.

mehhh...too close in the rear. i really don't want to cut into the door. any advice?

#23 ·
More than enough room! I have had the rear tires with barely a finger widths space between them and the rear rockers and it doesn't rub. The suspension flexes backwards and up away from the door so as long as the tires are not touching it's fine.
x2 you probably didn't need that much but extra clearance doesn't hurt.

01SEP2012 - Spidertrax Wheel Spacers Installation

getting my driveshaft and wheel spacers ready

the bolts were rusty and muddy so decided clean all the threads.

thread locker. i put some more on it after i took the pictures

unfortunately, even with 1.25" spacers, there is a slight rub on the front passenger tire against the lower control arm at full lock. this is probably due to the fact that my axle is not centered (it is off by 1/4" or so).
