One of the problems with the stock intercooler is that it is at least 50% obstructed by the front bumper. You can remove your front grille and see for your self. Ideally the replacement should have more exposure to the area above or below the bumper.
That is true, but if you have muck larger I/C it can act like a heat sink and it does not need as much air moving thru it to be efficient. The I/C I have on my truck is behind the bumper and almost parallel to the ground. It still does a good job.
