This will be a very slow thread! Since Clay and I are building his 5 I am not really building my Jeep at this time, but there are a few things that I am doing along the way. I can't put them in Clay's thread, so here is mine.

Her name is Lizzie. She's a 1985 CJ7 I got from a guy up in Hawkinsville, Georgia. She had sat in the woods for 5 years until I saw her and talked the guy into selling her to me. I got her for $1750. So far Lizzie has received a bench seat (from a Commando), MC2100, some gaskets, 2.5" RC suspension lift, ProComp 9000 shocks, and all poly suspension bushings. She is Nuttered and runs well. I am redoing the spare tire carrier and she just got some new wipers and dimmer switch.

Today I was replacing a wheel cylinder when AJ and his son JR pulled up. They helped me bleed the brakes and we discovered my Master Cylinder was bad. So we started to rebuild it. Used to be you could do that for about $3, buying a seal kit, but we discovered you can't find the seal kit anymore. So bought a reman master from Auto Zone for $18 plus the core.

Here are some pics of AJ working on the old master before we learned that we couldn't rebuild it, and some more pics of bench bleeding the new reman unit.

This is JR. He's as good a mechanic as his dad, AJ. Sitting next to JR is the old master cylinder disassembled.

To disassemble the master you have to remove the snap ring where the piston rod goes into the body. Then you carefully pull everything out. There are two plungers. The second one will be inside the body of the master. We used air pressure to force it out.

AJ buffing the lip so the lid will make a good seal.

Cleaned up and ready for the lid.

AJ used this tool to clean the bore of the master. The metal rod has a slot in the end. He used some sandpaper.

Wind it up on the rod.

Insert it into the bore and slowly spin the rod, cleaning the bore.

This is when we discovered we couldn't find a seal kit and opted for a reman. So we changed gears.

Here is the new reman master. I stuck it in my vise to prepare it for bench bleeding. I want to polish the lip so the lid will seal well. I used a metal file to do this. Keep it flat at all times. Protect the inlets from dust and trash.

Lots of filings.

Blow it out and level it in the vise.

Attach the bleeder nipples and tubes as described in the directions. Keep the ends of the tubes away from the inlets inside the reservoirs. You don't want to keep recirculating the air that will pump through the tubes.

Add clean fluid to the reservoirs, making sure the ends of the tubes are covered. Add fluid as needed to keep the tubes covered.

Push in slowly on the piston to begin the bleeding process. This will take you around a half-hour, more or less. Go slow. The directions say to use short strokes.

Bubbles!

Once all the air is removed top off the reservoirs, remove the tubes, and cap the nipples. You are ready to install.

Sorry for the super long post! But that will be all for awhile! :D

Thanks for the input Fellow Jeepers!

Matt, unfortunately my hunting arrangements/connections has changed for this coming year. I can no longer abide by the idiotic behavior of the land owner. I have to find a lease somewhere that is family oriented where I can take my boys and occassionally wifey. Bummer, too, because it was across my fence!

LOL! yeah, the paint scheme! I threw up a little!

Scott,

Sorry to hear that.

I hate the fact that virtually all hunting ground is being leased these days. The average hunter can no longer knock on a landowners door and politely get permission to hunt. They have to have their check book in hand, with a healthy balance, or be an outfitter.

I solved that problem by buying my own chunk to live and hunt on.

Good luck,

Matt
That's our goal too, but for now it won't fit. If we can find someone that has land and wants to trade for a nice house, then maybe!! Most of the local leases around here are "good ol boys" that secure a good piece of ground then find others to split the cost. It's not corporate, but sort of insurance. Of course, there are those who think they have the best deer and game, and they want $20 and up per acre! We'll see what happens. CL has several areas looking for hunters that are fairly close by. The BEST part about this unfrotunate arrangement is that the landowner (neighbor) won't have me to plant his plots or keep up his house/stands. And he's pathetic!

Be careful with that hood ornamentation you got there.. When you go to check the oil you could put someones eye out.
If I make it so it swivels, I can turn it around, hook the beak over the windshield, and keep the hood up! :D

Vicki says you can shoot the deer that are eating her Hostas any time you want, for free. The deer are corn fed, and good sized. I have counted as many as 30, within 300 yards from the house. They are thick up here. Fawns are running around also.

Skipper I finally got around to installing the She-Gators (AKA Girl Friend) hood ornament on her JK. Though I don't think she was real happy with me on account of mounting one of her relatives on the hood and two I think she would have prefered roses. Sheesh dead flowers only last a couple days a well preserved Gator head can last a long time!

I just dont understand why she say I aint romantic

Try painting the JK Camo, me thinks the GF doesn't like the color clash. You know, like women's shoes, everything need to be color coordinated .

Alright you Loafers... CLEAR OUT! I'm bringing in some REAL Jeep stuff now! This is the continuing saga of the CJ3B "Mako- The Maneater". I think it is a 57 or 58, don't know yet. Here are the pics of things I have found. The PO was certainly a person of small commitment! Evidence discovered throughout the interior of this poor baby surely points to Jeep dementia. Between the fierce roaches, giant, mutated killer grasshoppers, and evil field mice, this has been one risky job! The following pics are graphic and not for the faint of heart! :rtft:

Skipper rust bucket is too nice of a term for your find, however me thinks "Da Iron Oxide Episode" is a mo betta name.

And you could sell the tape on E-Bay as Percy Sledge or mo fitting Percy Sludge since it seems thats whats on it!
You are just FAR too generous Professor! Should I send you the tape? I think She-Gator was talking about how much you listen to PS in your shop?? :D

edit* I made the comment that both of these old Jeeps had the T18, but I retract that statement! I believe this is a T15??

I can see the PPO (the guy MY PO bought it from) sitting in the Jeep, eating his Beenie-Weenies, washing it down with quality Busch beer! There was a divorce involved with the selling of the 2A and 3B, and SHE got the Jeeps! HE must have been camping in this one!

The floor of the Jeep is a solid sheet of aluminum, hence, no rust. It completely fooled me! Rust out the wazoo, as you would expect. But I can fix it! (Shut up, Paul!) There really is NOTHING left of the original floor. Oh well, at least I can say I have a 3B! My plans, and they are long term plans (after my 7) is to install a small block and 4 speed, installing a "modern" NT driveline. So if anyone out there wants an original 3B drivetrain let me know. I would like to keep a D44 in the rear. If you wanna swap for the things I want send me a PM.

The driver's side drum is frozen and won't turn. I can't get the drum off. I remember 1993blackyj having this issue too. Guess I need to go back through his thread. If you have ideas that would save time, I am listening! I have used all the hammers I own, except for the big dogs, and I don't want to break anything.

Clay is doing overhead TIGing now, and by the end of summer he will be certified in that as well. He wants a TIG setup BAD! This thing needs a LOT of TIG work... I hope he still loves me when it comes time to work on this heap!

This is a COOL Jeep! :D

Oh my... all I got to say... wow. Good luck!?

As for the drum removal, it is no doubt going to need replaced anyways, so maybe a cut off wheel and BFH to bust it apart?

I haven't given up trying to remove it yet. It is soaking in Blaster now, maybe that will loosen up some of the IRON OXIDE! Don't want to bust it... someone may need it for an all original rebuild. I will be going with a D30 up front, so I don't HAVE to free it up, I just want to be able to roll it around.

Thanks any way Skipper for the offer may you could offer it to Bill as a trade for a new shift knob. The way I see it a new shift knob would be a major upgrade to "da iron oxide episode"
Oh ye of little faith! :p I'll let you ride in it some day!

Pulled the plugs, shot Blaster in the holes. Block is frozen. Oil is gray with water. I don't have a socket big enough to fit the crank pulley. Plugs are black with gunk... guessing this thing was smoking pretty badly. Number one plug is worst.

Wow... I can't believe you can see that! One of those killer grasshoppers jumped out of the bed and right into the spray gun tip, knocking it sideways, and before I could correct it I had the run! I had bumped up the air so I could paint fast (130psi), and there was just too much volume coming out of the gun... I couldn't control it after the GH attack. My own fault for being in a hurry! And I should have shot the durn grasshopper and fed it to my pet fireants!

Wow, I guess your more of a steel worker than a glass man. That was fast, but let's see the small block.

Didn't the Mrs. Post something about you being fast, ;)
