Ill start by introducing myself as another newb. My name is Ashland, 20 years old, and currently live in the soon to be cold state of Michigan. I recently came in to some money so I decided to by another jeep. Before I just had a 95' jeep grand cherokee. I bought a 93' jeep YJ, 4 banger with 31x10.5x15 tires(I think the tires won me over), that needs quite a bit of work.

I bought the YJ for 2000$ (way to much). The guy I bought it from said it just needed a clutch, which I now know was not the case at all. Not only did it need a ton more but the clutch was fine. So far I have replaced the clutch (it was a little worn out), slave cylander, some kind of pressure piston that cost 200$, a motor mount, some thing that connects the motor mount to the frame, a new trasmission support/skid plate(also cost alot) and a new valve cover.

Right now ive put about 1000$ into it and havent even been able to drive it but if I have any luck ill be able to drive it home tomarrow, were the more cosmetic work will begin. I will have pictures of it up asap.

That's some really nice work on the tire carrier. Keep it up!!

lookin' nice

I am waiting to see how you incorporate a GI can onto that carrier.. I can see the high lift, shovel and ax mount but I am stumped on the GI can without blocking your tail light. I want to do something like this to my TJ with two GI cans, one for water and one for gas. I was thinking along the lines of the old S10 tire carriers that went all the way across the back and attached to the body on the both sides.
Good work, keep it up.

hey, thanks alot. Ive been thinking alot about the GI can And I think I just figured it out yesterday. I wont be moving the hi-lift to the carrier but I was definitely thinking about the shovel and ax. Its going to be a couple weeks until I get more in depth with it though, but I will definitely post the results and how I did it. Thank you for reading.

well, its going to be a little while before I can post up any pictures of my progress. I have to wait for my insurance claim to go through because some jack *** decided to steel all my **** out of my jeep last night. I normally dont keep to much in there but yesterday after me and the lady got back from a ride we forgot to grab our stuff. This morning i went out to grab my camera and it was gone along with my GPS, nook color, Ipod, and sun glasses. In total over 600$ of stuff gone.:brickwall. My insurance policy says it will cover up to $1,000,000 worth of property but we shall see when they call me back tomorrow.

Anyways, This weekend I was able to replace my timing chain tensioner and timing bumper. I also found out that I need a new exhaust manifold gasket because its blowing out hot air right where the manifold meets the head.

And I went out to home depot and got a grade 8 steal mail box lock and put it on my center console, hopefully that will deter thieves or give them a hell of a time trying to get in.:2thumbsup:

Good news on the stolen items, they are all covered under my renters insurance!!!!

I made a bikini plus top and really wanted to show you guys so I used my laptop web cam. lol. In total it cost me about 60$ for all the material. Im sure I could have bought one for about that but I wouldn't have been as happy with it as I am with this one.

So here it is....

Looks great. I'm actually looking at making my own as well. I was thinking about using some sort of tinted plexi glass so it sill be rigid. The last one I has bowed in the middle due to rain.

thats a good idea are you planning on painting it black? If so I would be leery of it warping from the heat. Yesterday I went to go put armor all on the bikini and the stuff burnt right off, I had to spray it down with a hose so it would be cool enough for the armor all to say. It was sitting in the sun all day, it might be good to what temperature those will warp at, but obviously if you kept it clear or another color it would be fine.

Its great that you are knocking up everything yourself. Great initative gives you so much more pride in oing all the hard work yourself..

Now get a big F'n dog and cattle prod to fix the low lifes that took your stuff........ Hope the camera memory card was clean, or check you tube you may see theidiots have posted some of your pic's or vid's....

Great work keep it up.

Yeah it suck because I have absolutely no idea of who could have done it but I tell you what, if i see anyone F-ing around my jeep now ill be like a dog on a steak. Thank fully I didn't have any really personal stuff on the cam, mainly pics and vids of the jeep that have all been uploaded to the computer.

That is my all time favorite thing about building my jeep, I can use my imagination and do what ever I want. Next weekend is custom tube fenders and then re-upholstering all my seats, black outsides and blue centers.

It is looking really nice ashland! I didn't even think to make my own bikini top!!! Cheese and rice.. I don't know why.. I sew all the time! Next time I see you driving around town I am totally flagging you down :) I need to get a closer look at this top you've made.

you should get urself some kind of locking trunk maybe from tuffy trunks for the rear so that can not happen to you again.

some fenders would be cool.
Yeah, a locking trunk is another thing ive been thinking alot about, ill probably get it to that more after a few other things get done.

ok guys the insurance claim is going through slowly but surely so I should have a camera again in a week or two.

This weekend is going to be the biggest one yet for the build, ill be putting my creativity to the test. Im going to build my own tube fenders and frankly im a little nervous about it. I really think it will be a good investment though, since I made that bikini top I would step up on the fenders to do stuff to it and I noticed the stock fenders are denting and even cracking on the edges.
Sure you could tell me to just not stand on my fender flares but the fact is im rough on my little jeep and there is no point to keep building this thing if it cant even take me standing on it. So tube fenders it is, I talked myself into it:2thumbsup:

here is what I want them to end up looking like.

How are your hands doing? Did you buy a good pair of leather gloves for shop work?

Yup, im going to make some 1-2 inch tube fenders to the back as well, but that will be in a week or two. Im only able to fab on the jeep at my grandpas for 2 days at a time due to the fact the garage is 50 miles away and its my daily driver. And Im just not doing the finishing touches in preparation for paint, tube fenders will get done now so I dont have to repaint later. Ive decided 100% that I want to paint the entire YJ with monster liner. It cost about the same as quality paint and its easier to put on.

I am the master of all things machanical!!!!!!!
replaced my manifolds gasket and that damn sound is gone! I think my nabors are thinking im alittle weired though always wrenchin in the apartment car port, but hey, beats paying someone else hundereds of dollars to do it. Although there is still a small sound. Its not very load but its the pistons and i can here it more under the jeep. Is this normal for the 2.5l?

ok guys TUBE FENDERS ARE DONE!!!!!! Im really impressing my self with my creations. Less then a year ago I didnt know a single thing about cars let alone jeeps, but I guess I found my skill. I will be picking up a camera so I can take some good pictures this week but for now here are some crappy cell phone teaser shots. Took me 26 hours of straight work by myself to complete and I did that in 2 days. I was WOOOOOOOPED.

OK, got pitures of the tube fenders all bed lined up and Ive got to say I LOVE THEM!!! No smittybuilt or metal cloak could make me happier. They cost a grand total of $85 and ive got 8 inches of uptravel available. Let me know what you guys think.

OH, BTW i took off the rockers because they looked horrible with the tubes because they didnt line up very well. This gives me a chance to finish up some body work and my next project will be building new rocker guards.
