New gauge cluster background design

I designed up a new gauge cluster background for my XJ. I saw a few others out there that have made their own white background ones, but they all look sort of plain. Being a person who works with info graphics in my daytime job, I took the charge and designed new ones.

These are printed on a special tear resistant micro-pourous plastic with a 12 color uv resistant printer (we have some cool toys at work). It wont fade or curl like paper and those print it out yourself at home deals.

Ive been thinking of selling sets of them pre-cut for $25. Do you guys think that is a fair price? When my next pay comes in, Im thinking of setting up a dealer account here for that, till then, Im just tweaking the design. The photo below doesnt do these justice, I think they look great at night. Plus, my dash is not quite re-assembled because I have some fog-light wiring to finish

Your feedback would be nice. :cheers2:

Edit:

As requested, nighttime pictures. These accurately show what my eyes are seeing in the jeep, camera was rested on the steering wheel to have an unobstructed view. Taken with a Nikon D40, 2.5 second exposure, 6.3 fstop, ISO 400, minus the daytime photo

First, ambient light (center dome light):

~30% adjustment on the light switch:

Full lighting (stock bulbs):

And daytime:

Guess there is no turning back now

Looks like I am now a vendor, and these are for sale.

can you take some photos oh how these attach to the gauge cluster?, and some pictures of the actual product (not installed already)? I'm interested in buying one, but want to see more first.

How about the install instructions? They largely are held in with the screws of the faces, and do not require the removal of the needles. It makes for a secure and quick install. The larger faces have a dot of removable adhesive on the rear to keep them from moving, being larger makes them less rigid.

You 97+ guys, head here and answer this if you are interested. Got a dash and pulled it apart on my lunch break. I can do it, its just a matter of time. Time is easy... getting it made decently, not as easy as the current ones. That will take printers and CNC cutting that I dont have at home.

Ive come across something odd, Timo sent this image and it shows the trip reset in a new place.

I wonder how common that is?

Only 187,000 miles? You still got a long way to go if you treat it right. I will try and have something for this weekend on the metrics.

For the 97 plus group, I am working on the preliminary artwork while finishing up a few other bits that I had 3/4 of the way done. In my ADD drawing methods, Ive made a Tshirt from some of the art that I made coming up with these and other things.

Metric XJ love

Im thinking that if enough folks in Europe want them , I would be happy to help out someone who would broker a few sets to save everyone on shipping. We send packages to the UK a few times a year for some good friends, and I know how much shipping is across the pond.

You may want to ask a place called 4x4garage in Germany (http://de.4x4-garage.com/index.php/language/EN) if he wants to sell those? I've been ordering Jeep parts from him worth well over 5000€, and he is a really good guy to deal with. Dunno if he is interested, but it's worth a shot?

Couldnt say for sure. I would think that the lines would look washed out, at least the ones that are red. I could do up a set of #002 in black and white for just such an application.

I have a print scheduled soon, as I am at the moment out of 001XJ face kits.

Ive decided to offer free shipping to JF members, you guys have been good to us. Those who have ordered, please check your inboxes ;)

I will have the 89 and prior ones ready for print next week. Still no word on samples for the 97+, been busy and havent been able to get on the shops as much.

I tried looking for '91 up XJs for the other style metric cluster, but haven't seen any for a while. Also haven't been wheeling so no XJs around me at the moment. Next time I go wheeling I try to remember snapping some pictures of HO era XJ clusters, both pre- and after facelift.

Looking good!

Ive got a working prototype of the 97+ faces... just need to find a cost friendly laser cutting service (and finalize artwork). Any suggestions or JF members that could use the business?

One thing I have found, and may be a killer for most, is that you almost have to pull needles for those. Not something I like to do, but know people have done it with success, its the standard way to do these on newer vehicles. Any thoughts?

Not sure what you are looking for. That is why we have the option of putting in club logos, flags, or any of the others.

Or are you talking on of the other sets?

Azzy

Are you still looking for samples? What form of sample - just pics?

I have a '93 and a '99, both with metric markings so if you need some pics let me know and I can snap a bunch.
I think we have them covered, the only sets with the odo-reset in the gauge face have been on metric setups, and working with the first fellow that had them, we were able to measure them up and get them running. Thanks for the offer. I would like to see how the 99 is laid out though, for when I get the 97+ up and running.
