Growing up my dad had an '89 XJ lifted and locked on 33s that we would always take out. I got the jeep bug early with that, and I was hooked. When he lost his Jeep due to an electrical fire, he was done with the crawling thing and wanted a more comfortable ride to take him hunting and camping. Ever since then I wanted my own Jeep. In January of '09 I picked up a clean, stock, never wheeled '06 LJ with 12,500 miles for $17k.
I knew I wanted to build my Jeep up to be able to handle some of California's toughest trails, while still being a daily driver. I started wheeling it stock and had a lot of fun. I quickly learned that I hated mud
Justin what did you end up doing for front shock mounts? I have purchased the same Poly rear kit and am getting the final parts together before I install my Savvy 4" lift. I am using 12" Fox Resy shocks in all corners and was thinking about using a pair of the Ford towers in the front.
I'm thinking about the same outboarding kit, I'm concerned about the lower shock brackets though... I was looking at where they mount yesterday, and it looks like my brake lines will be in the way...
Those lower shock mounts are beefy as hell. I run coilovers on those mounts and no issues so far. It's a pain in the *** to get the CO on and off though.
That looks really nice! Now you've got me considering the same thing since I'm in the middle of an HPD30 build at the moment... With the inner axle tube set up is there an axle tube seal kit that will work with that? I purchased the Alloy USA tube seals for mine, but looking at them and the inner sleave on yours there's no way they would work. I've seen some nasty stuff inside of unsealed axle tubes on one of my Jeep club members D30 when he pulled out his shafts to replace the u-joints, and I wouldn't want any of that stuff inside mine.
Thanks! I think those would do what I was thinking, but if they were welded on the ends like yours are then I'd venture a guess that seal would melt unless it's removable... I guess I'll just run what I have for now, and if I have problems with the housing or tubes bending then I might look into a truss and inner sleeves.
been taking a few pictures just gotta start getting them together and downloaded before i forget what ive done. this is just a poser shot with the 37" mtr's on it stock.
It's my favorite for sure. You know, I'd like to get my corner guards and the backing plate on the sliders powdercoated to match, but it costs too much. And the bruised black and blue has really grown on me. My Jeep and I match most of the time too
Big day today. Got the JJ kit installed on the 30, and it got a coat of flat black paint. Rear coil buckets were relocated on the frame. And the outboard kit was installed. Don't have the 7100s in yet though, gotta get a couple shims to make them fit in the mounts.
Coil bucket cut off
Coil bucket relocated, with outboarded shock tower next to it.
HP30 all painted up with nice new Johnny Joints. You can also see the gussets on the C's.
So relocating the rear springs made a HUGE difference in how the Jeep handles. It's much more stable and flat in corners, and it feels a lot more planted. Not as much body roll either.
Got the Bilstein 7100s in today. They're a bit stiff bit we'll see how they do next week in Mojave. Didn't have time to get the rear Prothanes in though.
Also got the front axle in. Huge thank you to Kevin (tjdualsport) for all the help. I can't thank you enough bud!
Pics tomorrow of my resi's zip tied/duct taped in place for now
