I figured since the other thread started out as talking about making a club, and what clubs are available, we should have a thread that's just dedicated to setting up trail runs.

The title says it all, and it'll be less cluttered.

So, the 9/18/10 Run to Potato Ridge was a success!

Next item on the schedule is Logandale on 10/23/10 according to McRoberts. Seems like we have a few interested parties! Who all is planning to attend?

If there is anything in the meantime, or someone local wants another rig to ride with them, just post up and see if anyone is available!

There's a chance I won't be able to make it Saturday. My wife is supposed to be off at 3:00, but she's almost never out on time. Since she's salary, it's a weekend and there are a few conventions in town, I'd give it 50/50 now.
dude you are the "Trail Boss" you cannot back you. Where has Davidson at? I need to talk to our prez about this BS. I guess this is something that needs to be brought up at our next meeting!!!!

Sirhk, have a look in Fry's. They have a large selection of cables. They are probably your best chance of finding it locally.
Hmmmm, would've never considered going there. I'll give it a shot for sure before dishing out the big bucks on the platnum center gold plated with diamond studded cables that Rugged and PCI sell! LOL

So, you know what's pathetic... I've got a $100 gift card for best buy yet I can't think of anything I really want from there. I'm not a gamer, I steal all my music from online, I don't really buy movies cause I watch them once typically and never watch them again, $100 ain't buying me a mega sized tv, stereo, or other crazy thing and I'm not in the market for any of that anyways. Only thing I can think of is maybe one of those wifi enabled blue ray players so I can stream netflix.... I might just hold it till like next winter when all the sales kick in again. My parents HATE my TV that I have right now and have tossed out the idea of some Xmas if I wanted, they'd split a TV purchase of my choice 50/50. So maybe I'll take them up on that this time around and just hold the best buy card to put towards my 50% of the purchase!!! LOL The part that sucks is then I'm dropping a chunk of change right at the same time I'm spending it on gifts too so I'd be extra broke that Xmas! But I'd have a baller new blinged out TV to rot my brain in front of!!!

It made more sense when I bought it in Az cause my living room at my house out there is HUGE!

So I know I've mentioned this mystery race truck thing a million times on here and there's a link to the facebook for the team in my signature.

I swear, sometime very soon this truck will be back in my garage and I'll have no life over the next 6 months trying to get the fabwork finished and having it ready and prepped to race!

Not sure if I've gone into details about the gig but essentially I've got a sugar daddy in the pentagon that is funding 100% of the gig. It's his truck, he's paying to build it, buying me my race helmet and suit, etc... In exchange I'm building 100% of the truck for free, storing it, maintaining, prepping, fixing, etc. Also in exchange for the work I get to drive half the time. He's getting the good end of the deal but it's the only way I can afford to actually race. Anyways, the sugar daddy isn't some rich dude, he's just a air force enlisted friend and his wife works at the Mens Warehouse. He's funding the whole thing from money he's saved from various deployments over his 15 years of service. Anyways, I just got this email from him and think it's pretty badass he's looking to put this in place!

So I'm going to start working on a sort of side project that relates to the
truck. I don't know if I mentioned it to you but one of my jobs here is to
track combat related AF casualties. Basically every morning I come in and
look at the reports from the night before to track anyone who was killed or
injured in direct support of combat operations. Whether it was a result of
bad guys or an accident. When there is a casualty, I coordinate with Air
Force Public Affairs and the Casualty Branch in Texas that assigns
representatives to the family to help with resources, etc. I gather their
info and prepare a release that we send to Congress members from the states
the person was from and from where they were stationed.

Within 15 days of the event I also have to fact check and prepare a memo
that goes to the White House that they use to generate the presidential
condolence letter. The one the president sends to the family saying sorry,
etc. That part is actually tricky because it has to be perfect and cross
checked about 50 times. Obviously since it's coming from the president they
want to make sure everything is right from name spellings to family
situations. Like if parents are divorced and remarried, what are the new
step parents relationships? Did either serve as an acting parent, etc. Not
hard, just a real downer to come in every day and read about someone who was
killed and then have to go online and dig through their Facebooks and news
reports to cross check family names, etc.

So anyway, along with that, I spent some time in Tampa with the Wounded
Warrior program that helps provide resources to dudes who were messed up in
combat. Everything from building a network of peers so they have people
they can talk with to helping finance therapy, etc. It's actually a pretty
cool program and it's becoming more important because with the budget cuts
the VA is going to have less money to work with and as the wars wind down
people care less and less.

I am going to coordinate with the Family Care center at Nellis to make
contact with their local wounded warrior program. I am going to offer the
opportunity to come hang out and be around the truck for anyone that might
be interested. Sometimes dudes just need an outlet, something to occupy
their time, etc. I don't mean like super crazy messed up dudes, but just
dudes that are maybe having a hard time getting back in to the swing of
things. We'll play it by ear and see how it goes, I think they have a
program coordinator that I can work with and hopefully get a feel for who's
out there in the Vegas area. Maybe no one is interested and wants to hang
out but I'd like to make the offer. Give a chance to come help out maybe,
tool around in the trucks on a weekend, etc.

In addition to that, for the Parhump race, I'm going to set up a pledge
drive. I'm going to try to get pledges to sponsor us on a "per mile" kind
of gig. Like give us a $1, $5, whatever, for every mile we complete. It's
a worthy cause and I think we can drum up some support. Since Veterans Day
is barely a month later, I think it'd be a cool thing to do to raise money
to make a big donation. I'll work that coordination part with the Wounded
Warrior people too and then late in early fall I'll start seeing who I can
hit up to get pledges.

I'm going to bug Cliff to cut the Wounded Warrior logos to run on the truck,
bedsides or something maybe.

It's kind of corny but to me it's a cool opportunity to make stuff about
more than just racing. I think there is more incentive to get every mile we
can out of the truck when we know it generates more money for charity.

^^ Awesome. Very cool of you guys to put that together. Or think of putting it together at this point.

Unfortunately, I cannot make the Saturday night run as I will be working. Not to mention, the Jeep is down right now til it's appointment with Dan's Driveline Tuesday. Company coming into town the following weekend.

The thing with this dude is he'll put this whole program together and then flat out knock it out of the park above and beyond what most would expect! It's just the way he is and he doesn't half *** anything from the build of this truck to putting together a program like this.

About 18 months ago he put together a charity drive with the proceeds going to fast aid who was helping provide financial relief to the families of those spectators killed out in California at that desert race two summers ago. In about 5 days time this dude lined up a charity race night at pole position here in town and had the who's who of the big time racers in town showing up to race against, sign autographs, etc. He had tons of donations from those guys and local companies for a raffle with all the proceeds going to the fast aid org. It was insanely impressive what he pulled together in just about 4-5 days of time and planning and he basically was able to raise close to $5000 in that short time.

So knowing him and his passion for supporting the military and the contacts and leads he has this will turn out to be a pretty badass program he puts together. He puts a lot of time and effort into this seeing as how he's stationed on the east coast and has no means of providing hands on help with the building of the truck so doing stuff like this is his next best way of supporting the team and making it worth while beyond just paying the bills. I think it's rad that he's doing this and just gives me that much more motivation to get this truck built and hit the start line in Oct!!!

I soooo wish I could go to the night run with y'all - I'll be driving to Tahoe tomorrow (and likely thinking of how many ways I can kill myself with sagebrush after hour 3!!!!). I'm hoping the following weekend I can do a trail one of these days!!
