swap something into a 98 TJ SE?

Okay, I figured this kinda goes here instead of the TJ Tech forum. So, I'm looking at something to replace my 2.5L I4 with. Any ideas on something that's easy to find and has good aftermarket support and is good for offroading? I'm kinda thinking the 5.2L or 5.9L out of a GC might do pretty good, as the 4.0Ls are too hard to find around here. Is there a better engine or idea that you can think of? I kinda want something that has good low end torque and HP making it good for offroad. I searched a while for a Cummins, but that's too heavy I think, requires too much drilling and frame reinforcement, and is way too expensive. Ideas please. I would like the 5.7L Hemi conversion done, but that's just a rediculous ammount of power and money.

How about a dodge neon head, turbo and intake swap for your four banger. I think they are the same basic engine (below the head). I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.

That's an interesting idea. How much should it run me? Does a Neon come stock with a turbo or do I need to order one from somewhere?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe you may be thinking of the 2.4 liter 4cyl that comes in newer TJs. He has the 2.5, which is the same type design as the 4.0.

Yep, I was thinking about that too. The 2.4L in TJs now is from a Neon. The 2.5L in my older TJ is from AMC and goes back to one similar to the old GM Iron Duke. However, is there anything else that uses the AMC/Chrysler 2.5L that has a turbo?

oops. Ignore this one and go on down some.

Well, the 2.5L did have a turbo at one time. What do you guys think? Think it'll be hard to find one? http://www.allpar.com/mopar/22t.html
I think it'd be worth it if I could find one and rebuild it before placing it in, but will it fit on my '98 model 2.5L I wonder? Would Pirate 4x4 or some other place have an idea?
