I figured since the other thread started out as talking about making a club, and what clubs are available, we should have a thread that's just dedicated to setting up trail runs.

The title says it all, and it'll be less cluttered.

So, the 9/18/10 Run to Potato Ridge was a success!

Next item on the schedule is Logandale on 10/23/10 according to McRoberts. Seems like we have a few interested parties! Who all is planning to attend?

If there is anything in the meantime, or someone local wants another rig to ride with them, just post up and see if anyone is available!

There's also a huge dry lake bed on the north side too. It supposedly comes out in alamo. I wanna get a group together to run that.

Yeah, that sign has been there for years and people still go through. That's probably why I've heard that recoveries out there start at $1000, and go up from there. I've been told that it's passable, but it get kinda hairy in points and was also told "do not stop!" curious how hard it is, I went about a mile into it and it got really soft like talcum powder. Could be not so fun if it got deep!

Well it's official... Transfercase is on the ground behind the jeep and transmission is fully unhooked again. Just gotta pull the bellhousing bolts and it's ready to yank off. I'll get those out tonight and leave just one in it till I have someone there to help me lower it down. Tonight if a friend doesn't swing by to give me a hand with that I'll get the shifter assembly pulled out of the center console, cooler lines running up to the radiator, shifter cables, and all the other associated parts that I'm giving away with it. Not to bad... Pretty much figuring 3 nights to pull the entire thing out at a leisurely pace after hours. Then this weekend I'm hoping to make a large dent in getting the new transmission installed. Although I do still need to go pickup a flywheel for it and a clutch centering tool. Would be nice if I could button it up this weekend cause that would be the quickest easiest swap of any sort I've ever done!

It's really far from groom lake. At one point though, the trail crosses into the airbase. No markers or anything noticeable. Mtns look pretty cool up thee!

Oh yeah, there's a mine up there I wanna check out too. I'll find the name of it and be happy to explore it with you sometime.
My maps only show a few mines near that trail, but all are still well off the trail.

Spanish Mine:
Latitude: 38.3040987 / Longitude: -117.2861991

June Bug Mine:
Latitude: 36.3694113 / Longitude: -115.1725068

Tiffany Quarry:
Latitude: 36.6299689 / Longitude: -114.866946

There could be a few unlisted prospect mines in that area. It's very likely that there are. We've found plenty of mines not on any map.

Mormon Well is pretty standard.

Trail took a few hours, its something like 48 miles long. Then you've got another good hour to get back home once you hit the 93 out by coyote springs.

There's a capground up there, some cisterns, thats about it other than nice views, at least that i know about.

I plan to go camping up there before too long, its an easy road, and has decent site amenities.

Apparently the bathrooms are nasty though?

She's just getting worried about you, I think. Doesn't want to see you fall. Mormon well is a good scenic drive. Wheeler pas is good too. There's lots of stuff by the lake on the Arizona side of the dam. There's a few short trails behind Frenchman mtn. Kodachrome is one of them.

Mormon well is good for a day trip, unless you wanna stop every thirty feet. But then again, you're Mario Andretti off road, so you would make it in like three hours!

You know, you're the third person to tell me I drive too fast offroad. I just assumed I was leading a bunch of old people, but I figured it out. I find the destination the fun part of offroading. I tend to rush to the destination and not take into consideration people following might want to check out the scenery. Sorry about that.

Or pieces of my jeep flying off the road...
Ysb, you said autozone has sway bar disconnects? Which store had them or did you order online? Im liking the idea more since potato ridge.

Yeah, mormon well is EASILY doable in a day at even a moderately slow pace.

Just a note, not sure what shocks you have on your rig, or if in your recovering condition it matters, but its a very bumpy road. Just lots of washboardy parts and lots of rocky parts that about rattled my teeth out of my head in the waggy.

On a coil sprung rig with good shocks you'd be fine, but on my ole leaf sprung battle ship it was a bit of a nuisance. Not that it would ever steer me away from doing it again, but still, just something to be aware of.

Oh and, the faster you go the less bumpy it is, so, you should be fine there, Dale Jr. I just cant go fast because if i accidently hit a rut i fly around the cab and hit my head on the roof and end up on the passenger side.

I don't think anyone had them locally in stock. If anyone does, it would probably be 4 Wheel Parts. Auto Zone and Pep Boys had the OE style in stock.

Before I bought my Zone disconnects, I used the OE style and just went to Home Depot and bought a large clevis and cotter pin to replace the lower bolt. If you want to save money, you can just do that. Pull the pin and stuff the sway link to the top of your coil spring perch. It worked well enough. In fact, that was actually faster than what I have now. Strapping up the links takes the longest.

If you see something you like on the 4 Wheel Parts site, just phone the order in and pick it up at the local store. In all but one instance, my phone orders were picked up the next morning. Assuming I ordered it early enough the previous day. Also, when you pick it up at the store, there are no shipping charges.
