I just moved here from Newfoundland! Would love to get out on some trails. I am thinking of going camping this weekend. Any suggestions? I will probably be alone so not somewhere too far in the bush. I just want to get out on some logging roads and do a little exploring. If anyone knows a good spot let me know!

I love going up Doumont there's some good technical trails if your trying to test out the jeep but if not you can cruise the endless logging roads up there too! Lots of little lakes along the way if ya wanna camp on the lake side. This is down passed the jail in Nanaimo. If anyone wants to go for a run this weekend let me know! I'm off Sat Sunday but want to have a big st pattys day brew ha ha so Sunday works better for me.

I went out for a sunday run with a bunch of the guys from the Sidewinders Club. They dragged me from Boomerang lk...across to Mt Benson/Dumont. Dragged me through all kinds of stuff. Was an awesome day, and definetly a great experience being with a group of guys that pretty much guaranteed me they would get me and my jeep out of the bush before any of them left, which is a nice piece of mind and allowed me to push my jeep a lil further than I normally would have. These days though, I just prefer to get out and explore, and with all the logging roads out here, there's so much to see.:cheers2:

p.s. not too hijack the thread as I forgot this was supposed to be a thread for Victoria...all the same though

Thanks for the help, I should have checked JeepForum again before heading out this weekend because I missed your PM CookieMobster. We could have met up! I used my backroads mapbook and decided to go to Ladysmith and like you said the trails were great! I would definitely be interested in coming out for a run some other time. Me and my buddy had a good time in the snow and camped in a clearing we found at the end of a logging road. It was a little cold sleeping in the snow haha. The trails were perfect for my stock jk because the snow was usually at the most around 2-3 feet deep. I got stuck a couple of times and was able to spin my way down to the gravel for traction and get unstuck without much digging. I'm looking forward to getting closer to the peaks this summer when the snow is gone!

Also, this is probably the best place to ask this question:

In BC is it okay to have a rifle in your vehicle with you if you're not hunting? It would be unloaded, bolt removed and with a trigger lock. I know in some areas a carrying permit is required. The purpose would just be for doing a little target shooting in a pit or for safety if sleeping in a tent alone.

I wanted to take mine with me this weekend but figured I should ask first. I saw a few guys on the trail shooting cans and they said it was okay.

As far as the rifle goes...do you have your firearms license/permit? Not sure exactly what it's called, but regardless of vehicle, on foot or on your own property...you need to have the proper firearms license/permit. But as far as the vehicle goes, everything needs to be locked..like the trigger atleast. My buddy has the proper permits for his shotgun but has to keep his ammo locked up seperatly from his gun, and his gun secured as well, and that's in his own home. As far as outdoors goes and overnight etc..and assuming you arent just shooting it off in a pit, which on vancouver Island, will more than likly be private property...I'd carry something with me. If you have the proper permits, and you're using safety not stupidity...no one will know the difference if the rifle under your pillow is loaded and ready or not. but, by all means I do not have a firearms license or a gun at this point. So I might not be the best person to chime in...maybe someone else has some input?

Yeah I have a PAL and my rifles are registered. Coming from out of the province I may need to do a provincial hunters education course. That's something im going to look into at the wildlife division this week. More or less, was just wondering if my PAL, registration, and safely secured kit was all that was required to have my rifle with me or if I needed a separate carrying permit as well. I don't want this thread too off topic in case it might bother someone!

Hey guys, I was just wondering if any one here is still around the Victoria Area. I just bought a YJ she's stock for now but I'm reading and learning and building a new jeep one part at a time. I have a buddy who has a TJ and if anyone wants to go wheeling I'd love some more friends especially anyone who knows the area. I'm originally from Onterrible so I'm not super familiar with the area.
