Hello jeepers,
This is my first ever post ever considering i just joined a mnute ago. The reason i join is because of the vibration in my 2003 wrangler X. I installed a rough country 6 inch short arm kit, later i will be purchasing the long arm upgrade. I also installed the rugged ridge slip yoke eliminator and an adams custom driveshaft for a 6 inch lift. I dont know what to do next. The jeep only vibrates between 30-40 mph while accelerating. Below or above that the jeep is smooth. I just wanted some suggestions if possible what to do. I dont know if i want to install blocks to drop the transfer case or what. Thanks TheOrffs
do not know what 0 degree angle is but take a pic so we can see
also dana 35s pinion bearings are know to go bad but if that was it then it would vib all the time
Go buy a angle finder at your local hardware store. They are less than $10. Double check your angles bc even it might look "good" just eyeballing it, even being off a couple of degrees could give you the vibes.
Or if you have an iphone or android download a bubble level app. $1 and you don't have to go to the hardware store. Although, personally I think eyeballing usually turns out just fine.
Well, the picture is out of focus, too close and not square to the axle, but if you put a gun to my head I'd say pinion is touch low, although its close so might not be the isssue.
Have you pulled the shaft and driven in 4H just to confirm that the vibration goes away?
Did you put adjustable arms on the front and realign pinion there? Front CV shaft is materially longer so less senstive than rear, but 6" of lift is a lot. Personally I find localizing vibrations by butt feel can be a bit inaccurate.
It does look like the pinion could be adjusted up just a touch more, but it looks to be pretty close. The pinion and the drive shaft should be the same angle, but some folks like to run the pinion down by one degree so that when the drive line is loaded up the pinion will rise to be inline with the drive shaft. I don't know which way is better one way or the other though.
I agree with the post above about pulling your rear DS and seeing if that makes the vibration go away.
That's an odd looking output yoke, looks big, bulky and long (no ****). Also looks to be a lot of drivetrain lift. Sears has the angle finder. I'm currently adjusting mine, it can be difficult to set properly by eye.
*edit
Keep in mind - the pinion isn't supposed to point to the transfer case, but instead the center ball of the DC driveshaft - that's the pivot point. If it was set by eye, that may have been what happened.
Just having a hard time getting over that output though - you buy a SYE to also shorten the output - that partly defeats the purpose.
I could be mistaken though - I ordered my SYE with a Rubicon style output flage in stead of a yoke. I thought mine stuck out a bit more than normal but nothing near that.
Are you getting vibes during accelerating/decelerating? If that's the only time you get vibes then its your pinion angles.
