I figured since the other thread started out as talking about making a club, and what clubs are available, we should have a thread that's just dedicated to setting up trail runs.

The title says it all, and it'll be less cluttered.

So, the 9/18/10 Run to Potato Ridge was a success!

Next item on the schedule is Logandale on 10/23/10 according to McRoberts. Seems like we have a few interested parties! Who all is planning to attend?

If there is anything in the meantime, or someone local wants another rig to ride with them, just post up and see if anyone is available!

heres a pic of the structures I decribed earlier. this is quite easy to get to, which is obvious per the excessive tagging on it. G's are lazy, so you know its aesy to find.
Still don't know exactly what that place is, but I did come across this. The a-holes who tagged that area were dumb enough to tape and post it up on YouTube? I thought for sure it would be kids, but it's a bunch of hippies old enough to know better. It would be easier to accept if it were kids.

Who could we send that YouTube link to so they can be charged?

Ysb- that YT video is the same ruins I found. I think we can email this to metro and county code enforcement. The stupid assed kids show theirs faces deedeedee

Someone called them out on their YouTube page:

so you are the *******s that tagged that place did you not know how old this place is it is from world war 2 were they build beckon's at to warn las vegas and other people so you took a landmark and made it your own little notebook thats nice im so glad people like you live here to **** up the history that we have thanks well i sent you video to tag hotline so good luck ****ers
This was their idiotic response:
I'm sure that the city of las vegas really cares about this place, there is no plaque that designates what this place is...or was, it is simply cement blocks with trash strewn about it. Does this place exist anymore? This video was taken in 2000. Doesn't a neighborhood cover this spot now? Besides, history does not exist in Las vegas, they blow up historical landmarks there and build suburban neighborhoods and new casinos over them. Why don't you go make a plaque for this place? Make a video.

Can this maps be bought in printed version?
Not sure if they can be bought. I tried printing a map at home and there is too much detail for regular letter sized paper. They are free to use, so I'll just pick a few maps I like, copy them to USB drive and take them to Office Depot. They have a large format printer there.

If anyone has any other map sites, please post them up. I'm still looking for maps further south of Red Rock Canyon.

Looks like the issue at Frenchman Mountain will be addressed. Jon Humbert is a Channel 8 Investigative Reporter. He is the same reporter who reported on the graffiti at Red Rock Canyon which lead to the arrest, fine and jailing of those responsible. Here is the email I sent to him:

I recently became aware of the Frenchman Mountain ruins and was disgusted to see all the graffiti on the abandoned historic buildings. Trying to research the history of those buildings, I came across a video posted on YouTube by those responsible for the vandalism. I was surprised to see they were not teenagers, but a group of people old enough to know better.

I read your article in late 2010 about the vandalism at Red Rock Canyon and thought you would be the man to help correct the eyesore at Frenchman Mountain. Link to video follows:

What angered me most was the level of arrogance displayed in their comments on that same page.

I am associated with a group of local offroad enthusiasts. I'm sure we could get together a group willing to donate some time to enhance the area and restore it to a level locals would be proud to share. Please, help to see that those responsible cover the cleanup expenses, are charged and publicly humiliated for their crimes.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Within an hour, I received this response:

I really appreciate the email and most importantly, that video!

I'm traveling today but I am forwarding this to our desk crew for assignment.

I'm really interested. If they don't get to you today or tomorrow, I'm back in town Wednesday. If you haven't been contacted, shoot me an email Tuesday night and we can meet Wednesday.

Thanks so much!

Jon
I really hope they move forward with this. That video would look great on TV. So, who wants to help clean up?

Here's another follow-up email from Channel 8:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXXX,

I got your email from my coworker and am working on the story on the Frenchman Mountain ruins. Are you available for an on camera interview this morning on the efforts you an your jeep club are willing to donate to clean up the area. Please email me or call me at 702-XXX-XXXX
Looks like they are moving forward with this quickly. I'm willing to help if others here are, but I don't want to be on camera for interviews. I don't want to represent anyone. Anyone else here want to be on TV? I can forward you the phone number they gave.

Here is another email from them:
Thank you! But unless we get someone on camera, my managers are not wanting to do this story. I think we need to but we need someone on camera. ANYTHING you can do would be appreciated. I know you say you are not a camera ready, but I promise to make it as easy as possible. I just want to make sure we do this.
Anyone here want to do it? Otherwise, it looks like they are going to walk away from this. It would be good, free publicity. Maybe you'll get famous.

Unfortunately, that's the sentiment of today's youth, "I'm right, your wrong, and besides, you all owe it to me because I deserve it.". No respect for anything! They should use Oscar goodmans idea and chop off thumbs, can't hold a paint can with no thumbs
