I have a 94 cherokee that i just purchased. When you put it in D, it barely moves. When you put it in 1 it moves just fine. So, I thought something was wrong with the transmission. replaced the transmission. Same problem.
Just don't know what to look for next and am hoping someone here might have some ideas. I did change the computer out also, the main computer, had no effect either. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Before randomly replacing parts in hope that you accidentally fix some unknown malfunction, you should perform some diagnostics. Always start with the free stuff, and then move to cheap and easy stuff. Check all the fuses. Check the fuse at or near the TCU. Inspect the wires and wire connectors for corrosion or damage. Test and inspect the sensors including the throttle position sensor(TPS), transmission output speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, park/neutral position (NSS) switch and brake switch. Check the Throttle Valve cable, make sure it is set correctly.
What year was the donor for your Transmission ? Not all transmissions will interchange.
on the older AW4's if you unplugged the TCU it would shift into whatever gear you put it in and stay there, or when in D had 1st 3rd and 4th with no lockup which is a lil different than some that get 2nd and reverse with no TCU/TCM
throttle position sensor can cause very similar issues to what you're describing as well, so follow Tim's lineup and I think you might bump into something by the time you hit the TPS
