Hello, this is my first post to the board. I have a 1975 cj5 project in my garage. It has the usual: i-6, 3 spd tranny, and all that. I also just aquired a 1978 2-door wagoneer mainly for the 360 that is in it. What else if anything is interchangeable? I would like to use the powersteering, power brakes, and the autotranny but since I have not torn into it yet I am not sure what will work. Any ideas?
Thanks

The 360 will bolt up to the bellhousing. You will need to address motor mounts, wiring, the flywheel, and the front springs. Also watch the frame with the additional HP. If going to wider/stronger axles, the front 44 is a good starter with some modifications (shorting the long side). The auto is too long and will not work well in the 5. Personally, I would leave the 5 the way it is and just go through it and fix it up/ rebuild it.

I dont think that the engine swap will be too bad, my concerns are with the brakes and steering.
Can I swap the cj non-power box with the wagoneer box?

What is entailed in adding power brakes from the fsj?
Is it possible to just swap the power brake booster over or do I need to replumb the whole thing and change the brakes too?
The wagoneer came with a fullsize chevy front with disc brakes.

And about the tranny, if I move the new 360 forward a little will it fit. Anyone know the dimensions of the t14 vs the auto (I think it is a th350 but not sure).
Also if I can shoehorn it in will it bolt up to my xfer case?

Any ideas?

Yes you can use the Waggie power box. It bolts right up.

Adding the brakes will take some work but it can be done. Your CJ5 has drums on the front. The Waggie has discs. It woud be a good time to convert to discs. There's a lot to it and I'm not going to go into detail. Go to Yahoo or Google.com and search on CJ disc brake conversions. There are various webpages out there detailing different ways to convert. Personally I like the manual brakes in my '75. Converting them to discs make all the difference in the world. I can lock up 35's no problem.

The tranny in the Waggie is a Turbo 400 and it is bolted to a Quadratrac (most likely). Crawl under it and look at the output to the rear axle. If it's offset towards the passenger side it is Qtrac. This auto will not bolt to your transfer case without an adapter. It is also way too long for a CJ5. You wouldn't have much of a driveshaft. Moving the engine forward is a lot more involved than you woud first think also. Look at your frame where the motor mounts are and you'll get the idea. Moving them forward also moves them up. You really don't want to do that.

There are lots of things that can be done with the Wagoneer parts. You just need to spend some time on search engines and looking at other peoples websites for ideas and techniques. A good place to start for identifying equipment is www.jeeptech.com . Asking questions here and there on these bulletin boards will never get you the entire picture.

I was surprise at how well the power steering box lined up to the manual mount. Even the stock brake line was bent to allow for ps hoses, Cool! A small problem I have encountered is the original steering shaft from the wagoneer is too short. I would like to reuse the whole tilt column but the collapsable part is too short. Any ideas? The original is too small of a diameter. I do not have access to a welder (at this point), where can I get a longer telescoping piece?

Thanks
