Is there a way to test a coil to see if it is bad? What voltage should you get from the coil?

OK so the first test would be the same as turning the key on and removing the wire from the top of the distributor cap and putting it near a ground, which I did with coil and a spare coil and nothing. The second I am guessing that by testing the Ohms, if it is a bad coil it will not read any Ohms?

Your Haynes or Chilton's manual should have the acceptable readings to see if it's bad or not. If you don't know you can take it to Autozone and they'll test it for free, probably even try to sell you a new one if its bad.

I think there is a continuity test you can perform but I'm not sure. Have any buddies with the same motor as your jeep? You could try swapping it out.

So there's no spark from the coil to the distributor? If not I'd look towards the CPS like you said.
