Did not get to make it to Choccolocco Mountain this past Saturday. My home project turned into a nightmare.

Anyway, Just checking to see if anyone is riding at Choccolocco Mountain this Saturday (4th) if weather permits. Be nice to get a small group of stock to semi stock guys going. According to the map on their site, there is a lot of 1 to 3 trails for us. We are not into 4's and 5's.

We went to Choccolocco Mountain today and what a AWESOME Park. Trails and Trails everywhere. Arrived at 12:00PM and did not leave till 6:00PM. 6 hours of exploring of fun trails and really did not repeat that many trails. They have trails for everyone from the novice beginner to the hardcore trails. If you have a stock jeep, you will find trails that you can do. Over 200 trails and obstacles to choose from. These trails wide enough for full size vehicles and we found that 95% of the trails are marked and the map at the gate was really great. We knew where we were most of the time. Something that was neat was like on the Peddle Hill, the had a bicycle hanging on the tree with the name. On the trail Tin Can, they had a large tin can by the entrance of the trail.

We stayed on trails that were rated from 1 to 3 since that was our class. This would be a great small tire ride. A lot of the trails names fit the names. You can look on the map (red trails) and listed are the trails that we did today:
Peddle Hill - 3
Radio Flyer - 3
Burrow - 2
Blower - 3
Baja - 2
Rockwell - 2
Ground Hog - 3
Ghost Hunt - 2
Voltar - 2
Mud Hill - 2
Payton Pl - 2
Chicken Trl - 2
Swamp Rd - 2
Swamp - 3
Blue Ridge - 2
Chain Link - 2
Overlook - 2
Scenic View -1 to 2
Arsanal - 1 to 2
Tombstone - 2
Bulldog - 2
Phoenix -1
Fizzle - 2
Gauntlet - 2

We did walk over to the famous "Boat Ramp" and as we were approaching, it claimed another victim - orange Toyota. We heard the sound of a driveshaft hitting the ground. The pinion yoke left with the drive shaft.

We looked at some of the trails that had names of fear, like Mercy, Hell's Revenge, Execute, Elevator that might make some of the big boys tremble. Again, the name of the trails fits the trails.

The park has clean bathrooms and showers. We met the owner and he was super nice. He was in the process of digging a pond so folks could kick back and do some fishing. Also we noted a lot up things that are being built to make the place even better for a family outing. Again, we were really impress with this place and the attitude of the owner wanting to make this a great place. All of the folks we met were super nice. The cost of $20.00 for the day and $30.00 for the weekend was a extremely great value. You got your monies worth. The trip from Leeds to the park was 1 hour. Plenty of parts stores near by for any parts that you might break. Also several motels and restaurants near by.

I would give this place a 5 out of 5. You can see our pictures at : Choccolocco pictures by jw_britt - Photobucket You really need to visit this place.

Choccolocco was a great park and it looks like it's only going to get better with the pond going in and it looked like several other projects were under way.

Here are a few more pics:

Here's the Toyota from above. Notice anything missing?

A nice view from the top:

Another great trail ride at Choccolocco Mountain Off Road Park. Not many showed up, but we still had a great time. There were 4 of us in the group. Trail ride started off good. We stayed on the 1 & 2 trails since this was everyone's first time at the park except for me. Did not want to scare off DRFC on 3 or 4 rated trails. Sometimes if you get DRFC on a difficult trail, he wants to bail on you, so we try and keep him in the center so he has to stay with the group.

My wife confiscated my camera for her photography school, so I did not get to take many pictures since I was limited with son's camera. Trail ride started at 12:30 PM. We started off on some trails that I did last time.

About 2 hours into the ride, our first breakage occurred. 84Ranger somehow was able to lodged a tree log between his axle and the frame, pulling his driver's side rear break line in half along with the steel line that leads to the passenger side. After some studying, we took the rubber line off on the passenger side rear disk caliper and hook it to the driver's side disk caliper and to the main line that feeds the rear brakes. So now he had 2 front brakes and 1 rear brake.

So I plan was to get him back to the parking lot and he could ride with someone else. It sounded like a good plan, but somehow we ended up next to a big TeePee, no Indians were found. Of coarse this was for a trail called "TeePee". Well I guess we made a wrong turn and ended up on a trail called Rubicon, right next to TeePee Trail. It started off great. I few little rocks and than some little bit bigger rocks, than some BIGGER rocks. We were on the wrong trail for sure. It's one of those you get so far, you think it's going to get better but it doesn't, it didn't. At the end of the trail, which it seemed forever, there were some boulders. I manage to get over them and Lee (JK) made it over also. As the JK was making it over, I found a bypass trail for DRFC and 84Ranger. Would I do the trail again, I would say yes. It was a fun trail even though we found it listed as a level 4 trail. If you like a rock garden, there is plenty growing rocks on this trail waiting for Jeeps. We than proceeded to the parking lot to leave 84Rangers' truck.

We rode on some other trails after that. About 5:30PM we did a trail called "Short Cut". It was a long trail with loose rock, dirt and some deep 2 foot to 3 foot canyon ruts that you had to straddle. DRFC was about to turn around until we told him it was a level 2 trail. Whoops someone read the map wrong? Anyway, no one fell into the ruts but when we got to the end, it was blocked due to some new construction. So we had to turn around and take one of the side trail. Everything was fine until DRFC turned around, which those spots were limited. Somehow he decided to break a hub during the turnaround. We had to pull him with a tow rope in the turnaround. Maybe this is when he hit his front bumper on a dirt sidewall causing the fender to hit his door which caused his door to bend which prevented him from exiting his vehicle to look at the damage? If looks could kill, we would all been dead. We went back to the base camp and decided to call it a day. The owner and his wife walked over to say hello. Super nice folks. He stated that anyway he could help CAOS, just give him a call.

So here are the few pictures I took, along with a YouTube video. Hope you will enjoy. I think if we ever had a club ride out there, yawl will really enjoy the place. You don't have to have big tires out there to have fun. We did run into one club ride out there. It was a group from Mobile Alabama. Seems like they had about 10 to 15 folks out there.
