This is a thread remake. For some reason ALL my photobucket pictures got messed up, so I figured it would be easier to make a new thread and condense everything.
Basically the back story is my dad bought the Jeep in 2001 (3 years old) and got it cheap because the first owner rolled it on the drivers side. Looking back on this we realized it was more than rolled on it's side, it was heavily abused. None-the-less it has been a rock solid Jeep. Zero frame or inside tub rust and the engine is bullet proof. But because of the crappy body work previously done, the outside suffered.
Anyway, the Jeep was passed down to me when I turned 16 and knew the first thing that I would do is new paint.
I'm a bit sad because it wasn't until AFTER I deleted all my pictures off photobucket, did I realize that there were some pictures on there that I didn't have on my computer, but I still have all the high points.
Before:
Bad rust spots:
Removed tailgate and began sanding/chipping the old filler off:
Finished sanding:
Still not quite sure what the deal with the rear quarter panel is. It seemed like the rust spots were right along where tack welds were behind the panel, and were where someone took a grinder to it, and did it really badly because they dug into the metal. You can also see on the back it rusted through to the that body mount box, but the other two bad rust spots didn't rust through.
So I decided to keep the body filler the the minimum. Instead of caking it on like the previous owner I went light, even if it meant the body wasn't perfectly flat. Here are pictures of the body filling:
