Has anyone attempted to swap in a 5spd transmission in place of the T18

Just got off the phone with Novak, it appears that the following list might do the job, has anyone tried this behind an AMC360/401?

1. Bell Housing from 4.0
2. NV3550 Transmission
3. Novak Adapter to D20(#152)
4. Drive shaft changes

Not looking for stump pulling power here, so the 4550 might be overkill.

Thoughts?

i would not put a nv3550 behind a 360/401 engine
even behind a 4.0 engine , the strength of that tranny is marginal

if you really want 5 gears , then the only tranny you should put behind the 360/401 is the nv5600 heavy duty 6 speed .
only the dodge cummins turbo diesel pick-ups came with those tranny`s ( 3500 series )

only 1 manufacturer used that tranny in their heavy duty pick-ups ,, dodge

advance adapters has the new bell housing that mates the 360/401 engine to the nv5600 hd 6 speed

and quite a few cj owners have done this swap and love it , it can handle anything you throw at it and more

What about the NV4500 out of at gas dodge truck? came in Dakotas too.

AN NV4500 from a 3/4 ton dodge pickup would be more then enough to handle a 360/401. the only diff besides the gas and diesel version is the spline count on the imput shaft.

I have been looking into this swap my self as i love my 4 spd but i would kill for an OD in my j20

chrysler stopped using the nv4500 because of the 3rd gear failure woes.

that is why they switched to the nv5600 heavy duty tranny.

new venture only listed the nv4500 as medium duty strength

if i had a 3/4 ton jeep full size pick-up , the nv5600 is the only tranny i would swap in
