i got a 2002 Hyundai elantra, a second car is never a bad idea. when the jeeps outa commision or im driving far distances out comes the elantra. plus beating on that car is fun lol.

of course putting smaller tires on it, and regearing will help quite a bit if a second car is not something you can attain easily. but generaly a beater car is cheaper then re gearing

<-09 Honda Accord. Only gets 26 or so, but it beats the hell outta driving the Heep on a daily basis.

There are many more benefits to owning a second car than just mpg.

You can do more to and have more fun in a vehicle when you don't have to worry about how you're going to get to work on Monday. I've had two vehicles since I was 19 and three since I was 25.

As a secondary vehicle my insurance (full coverage) on my yj is only like $28 a month. So there isn't much expense for me in owning two.

Agreed, my accord has many benefits over my Jeep that keeps it in my stable.

1) MPG (of course)

2) Security. When I go into Portland, or anywhere else iffy, I'd much rather park my turdbox accord with no attractive qualities in a dark lot, -over my thief magnet Jeep.

3) Driveability. It's much more comfortable and easier to drive in town with stop and go traffic.

4) Room. I can actually fit more stuff in my accord than the Jeep. Plus it obviously is better suited for hauling people around as well.

5) Piece of mind. As OCS12 said, It's nice to have something else to drive when working on Jeep projects. But more importantly to me, It's nice to have a reliable secondary vehicle as backup if needed. I also have a full size Bronco, but I wouldn't consider it efficient, reliable, or daily drive it anymore...

I only have the means to have a single vehicle, so I traded in my Hyundai Azera (that was a fun car) on my Jeep Wrangler. If I had a long commute, I wouldn't have been able to justify it, but my commute is just a few miles and I live on a mountain so the 4WD in the Jeep is pretty nice. I was able to fit way more stuff (plus people) in the car but we use my husband's truck for the passenger rig and the Jeep is for fun. :)

Yes, there is something you can buy for you jeep. I bought a 2003 Honda Civic Hatchback SI. It is my Jeep's play mate. When I go to work or to the store I drive the Honda. When I want to have fun in the sun out comes his big brother TJ.
