Windshield Wipers: Not working!

Hey fellas,

Driving down the freeway, in the rain, and the wipers just stop working right in the middle of the windshield. Thankfully, I had Rain-X on the windshield and gave me a clear line of site down the road, lol. Got to school, parked the Jeep, and shut her off. After about 10 minutes of waiting, the wipers worked! The rain stopped and I went and enjoyed the rest of my day.

But then, today, the wipers stopped working AGAIN, in the rain, on the freeway.

What is going on here? Maybe the motor? Where should I look first?

Do you hear the motor run when the wipers are on, but not moving? Mine stopped working a while back, when I dropped the windshield I noticed the nut holding the linkage on fell off the motor. I put everything back together, all was good afterwards. I don't want you to spend the money on a new motor if it's not needed.

IIRC the wipers are on a circuit breaker rather than a fuse. If it trips then they won't work until it resets itself after cooling down. It looks like a fuse, but made of metal and possibly stamped with something like 6.3 amps.

I had the same problem you are describing and it turned out to be the contacts in the fuse panel were corroded and causing the breaker to trip.

So what was the end result this is happening to me. Wipers start working in the beginning but as I get about 5-10 min of drinving in the rain they slowly stop working and this does not happen when it has been dry for at least a few hours.

Also, having a problem with my lighting. My dash lights and parking lights aren't working. my front right turn signal isn't working either but the bulb is fine all other turn signals work. My headlights and brake lights work. Fuse?

My problem actually turned out to be the wire that runs from the wiper motor to where it plugs into another connector somewhere near the steering column under the dash. The wire had just enough of getting pinched when the windshield is folded up and bolted to the rollbar. I couldn't get just the wire so I had to replace the whole wiper motor.

As for the blinker issue, try replacing the flasher in the fuse panel under the dash (driver side). And for the dash and parking lights, try replacing the switch. It looks like this:

Good luck! :tea:
