I took the fuel pump off my 76 CJ7 with a 304 V8 and while off I stuck my finger in and felt the timing chain . I was kind of suprised at how much play it had . I could slap it against the side of the timing cover . Is that normal or do I need to replace it ? I think it has about 85K on it . Also the oil sending unit was removed and a pressure line style gauge and and tube were installed . It is now leaking were the tube goes in the engine . I think I would like to put it back as orginal but don't know were the sending unit goes and I would like to verify that the wires are all still there if anybody knows or has a picture of the location I would really appreciate it .

Thanks,

Chad...

It does sound like it's time for a new timing chain. Here's a pic of where the stock oil sender goes, and you should look for a purple wire in your harness to connect to it. Just find the purple wire under your dash, hook it up to your new gauge and you should be good to go.

Yes, only one wire. The ground is provided by your engine block. So make sure it's grounded well. Make sure that you don't wrap the threads on the sending unit with something that is going to isolate it from the engine block so that you will get a good ground.
