Just started yesterday. My 1996 Cherokee doesn't seem to shift back down to first gear after being up in third or overdrive. I noticed it after exiting the interstate yesterday. It does have 227K miles on it, but I've never had any problem with the tranny. Is it likely something simple, or am I looking at replacing the transmission?
Sounds like it could also tranny solenoids also, i had that happen to me and it was not shifting right either. Sometimes wouldn't downshift or shift up. This could be what you need Solenoid kit, A140 / A240 / 241E 1983-UP Makco Transmission Parts It does not take too long to do, took me a few hours, you just need to take the transmission pan off and the solenoids are right there.
