just thought it would be a neat idea if someone could start a thread with only pics and info on home mods. write-ups wouldn't have to be included but a link to one would be nice if it is available. if someone likes the idea, start it up!
I took my jeep to a local stereo shop to have a in dash installed but decided to do it myself instead of paying the $500. in labor they quoted me.
I had two boxes with 12" speakers. Itook one and cut it down to fit the back.
I took a side from a wood bed rail I was throwing away and mounted the amp to it under the seat.
I didnt have any brackets so I made some with scrap pieces I found in my garage.
There were big gaps on both sides after installing the unit so I used foam with 3m backing to take up the space.
After a lot of trimming this is the final result. Not perfect but works for me.
i drilled a hole under the center console and threw the cup holder, (cause i dont use them anyways) and ran them threw the floor and along the frame trying not to have to much bend cause then the dont work as well. then to the axles. i wish u couldnt see the cables but...
I am in the process of fabing a custom bumper with a tire carrier. I want to know where to find the hinge and latch for the tire carrier. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
I was so totally going to do that cnsole after seeing your write up. But, my fiance totally hated the idea. I feel I should consider her input since she does actually help me work on the Jeep all the time.
This is a snowboard and wakeboard rack that I made for the tailgate. Its 1 1/16" tube and 1 1/2" angle iron. I used weatherstripping for a exterior door for the padding between the steel and the boards. It has held up for 6 months and looks brand new. I kept it on all winter with and the salt did not effect the weatherstripping.
It seems to be strong enough
Here it is with 1 snowboard and 1 wakeboard.
Just thought there might be someone else out there that might be able to use a rack like this.
theblackjeep98 - here are the pics of the quick discos pre-installation. I went with the hitch pin(top). The directions in the link below called for a cotter pin(bottom) but the picture was of a hitch pin.... so I went with the picture but bought them both just in case.
Started mocking up my 8.8... Even though I don't have the actual housing for my Jeep yet I did end up with a carcass out of a van, so I'm using it to mock up my axle truss etc. So today I built a skid for the bottom. I didn't want to shave the housing but I also remember from my previous Jeep that the big lip on the bottom of an 8.8 is nothing but a rock catcher.
So here's an upside down shot. I mounted the skid so it's flush with the lip...it's bolted to the housing using the webing...
I made a filter for my hvac air so I won't be breathing dust when I move to AZ. It looks like something out of Apollo 13 but will be easy to replace the filter and gets the job done very well, hasn't restricted airflow either.
I did some work on the TJ lately. Hope you like it:
1)
Added two 12V outlets. One is mounted as per the picture below. The other is up under the dash, out of view with my GPS power cable plugged into it (but still removable in case i need it )
2) A dash mounted on board air gauge. I had one previously mounted on the tank (it sits in the back) but stuff always kept falling onto it and the longest the gauge would last is a few months. This should last a while and it looks kind of spiffy
Routed an air line below the air bag and behind the glove box and up under the dash.
3) Added mounts for my maglite. Now i'll always know where it is. I was doing this upside down from the drivers seat and the bottom came out crooked ... oops. But it still holds the light just fine
4) Mounted some IPF 968 driving lights to the front. They kick @$$ !!!!!! And their wiring is so nice and simple i didn't have to make any mods or anything, perfect is all i can say. I'm sure Lightforce would be more impressive, but for the money i don't think you can do better then the 968, honestly.
here is where i mounted my switch. I was not going to use it, but after plugging everything in i realized it lights up green when not in use, and amber when lights are on, and i liked that, so i stuck with it.
I mounted it between the gauge cluster and the center console, with the wire running in between and barely visible. Quite pleased how it turned out.
I was going to run those 968's when it's time to do lights. I'll be doing the headlight conversion of theirs as well then. I'm still getting pricing for everything now though. I'm glad you like those. That makes me feel better about them. How is that plastic? I was really hoping that it wasn't all cheap.
