I'm curious to see what people have done to customize their XJ's interior. Things like toggle switches, gauges, etc. I know there is always someone who has painted their cluster bezel or covered it with carbon fiber or wood grain stickers, but I want to see functional things. Where do you put all your stuff? And a couple solid ideas about at least one cup holder would be cool. HAHA!
Anyone done any sound deadening to theirs?...since I tried my fenders the noise has gotten worse. Thinking about doing something real soon. Just looking for examples/ideas...
I have done sound deadening, not finished yet, it worked great. 2 layers of edead on floor, inside door and quarters. I am still working on covering it all with Volara 2EO foam to get rid of high frequencies. I only have it on the floor now.
are you getting the lever out of a Grand cherokee or are you just going to relocate yours over a bit? i just got a center console so i am curious. did the shift lever indicators line up properly and everything?
For the emergency brake, all my dad says I need is the newer lever out of a 97+ and he says it just about bolts right in, its been 5 years since he did it so his memory is a little fuzzy on it. The shifter I recommend replacing with one out of a newer one just because it curves, better looks. It just bolts right in place.
there's also a nice spot for a switch box right in front of the shifter too, sweeeeeeeeeeeeet dude.
Might as well post this here too. I recv'd some negative feedback on air-bag interference (rightly so). But, it's worked out pretty well so far. I'm going to make a new bracket for the CB mike and GPS on the left. I'll make a Fitch box and add a side mounted bracket for the Sirius.
Full gauge cluster swap to get rid of the dummy light dash as well as a military waterproof and airtight box that I scored at a swap meet for $10 to hold some of my recovery gear.
Interesting BMX, I am considering a jensen model flip-up for my headunit replacement. But your set up there has me thinking, if I can fit a double din...then lets do it. How much dash hacking was involved? It didnt look like anything below the unit box..true?
It wasnt that hard, most of the cutting was actually behind the radio to tuck the whole thing back there. I had to cut probably an inch and below the radio in order to fit it. Its pretty easy and if you screw up on the cut Im sure the dash bezel can be had cheaply from a junkyard. Ive had alot of questions on it so one of these days im gonna put together a write up on one.
Should work on any. They are drop in replacements in most cases. I have blue ones in my '90, the only disadvantage is the dimmer no longer dims because they draw so little juice.
I built some custom sub boxes that contour to the back of the rear seats and extend over the wheel wells for greatest possible volume. They sound sweet, and they dont move around at all because of the design.
after that in bought a touch screen and separated the circuit boards from it and mounted them on plexi. it was then installed behind where the stock radio would go.
then I cleaned it up dressed the wires and made it look nice with a new bezel. unfortunately I do not have any finished pictures. the touch screen ran off a laptop that was mounted along side the passenger seat and it would control music, video, and GPS.
Went from almost no interior, to having an interior lol. It had no headliner, no upper trim, no stereo, no speakers....
Everything light gray went black, everything dark gray stayed. It's not quite finished. We haven't done the lower trim molding yet. Oh and we need to degrease the carpet bleh.
We used duplicolor soft vinyl spray paint and krylon for plastics.
No headliner
Headliner (have since installed the plastic piece to cover the hole between the visors.)
Ripped seats and no door panel
covered seats and redone door panel.
beat to heck hatch panel full of random screws, with no speakers
My mainest man, where did you find the door paneling? I've got some work ahead of me in that department too, I can't seem to find anything online.
