I am in the process of building my shot 4.2L, I wanted peoples opinion on EFI vs. Carb. From what I have gathered the biggest advantage of an EFI setup is the milage increase and ability to run at steep angles, the second which is not to much being I wanna run mud. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I just recently replaced my carb (87' wrangler) with a Mopar multi-port injection. I could not be any happier than I am with the improved performance. About a 60hp gain (you already listed the other benifits). Another factor for me was the ability to pass smog inspections. I strongly recommend EFI and I recommend the multi-port over the TBI system. In my opion, the extra cost of the Mopar system is well worth it. The Mopar system is the factory system installed in new jeeps.

Thanks for the help. Do you know of anyone that has done a rebuild on the 4.2 and kept it carburated and went with an aftermarket intake manifold and such? Thanks again, and long live the YJ :D

Can't say I do. It really depends on your smog requirements. I'm not really an expert on Carb systems. While you are doing the rebuild, I would recommend putting a 4.0 head on your 4.2 block. Gives you about 40 more horses. Many places on the web to help you with the install.
