Looking to hook up with some beginning to intermediate off-roaders in the San Diego area.

I am a newb to jeeping but not to common sense. I bought a jeep to try, and if I like it I will buy another and give this one to my daughter.

I am truly a quick learner and looking for other beginners or some old salt that is just willing to share the wisdom of their experience.

I would like to go jeeping at least once a month and of course more during the learning stages.

Currently, fire roads are all I have found around hear and a few construction areas.

What I am proposing is that all the way south newbs UNITE... if we can find some old salts to come along we can all learn faster. But I say lets get this thing rolling...

WHO IS WITH ME....?

Current jeep is

88 YJ
31x10.5.15 BFG ATs
I6 258 carbed
Pretty good condition but I am replacing all the parts that should have been replaced ages ago. (Hoses/clamps/Top etc...)
(The jeep sat for 3 years so I'm shaking out all the cobwebs...)

Someone needs a hug.

I did answer a question in YJ tech though.

A thought ocurred to me this am regarding the half price day at the JY. Just a guess but I bet the cars that are all there now have been pretty well picked over and there is not much left. Could that be why it is half price? It seems unlikely that they would bring out a fresh crop of stuff and then give it away cheap.

The guy that bought your springs said he was down at the pull your part place hunting for some just the day prior. He said that he spoke with them about the half price weekend and they said they start bringing in a crap load of new stock just before the weekend.

Take the info for what its worth, but thats what I heard! :cheers2: I figure worse case I waste $2 and some gas money.

How about a boat repair party,i am the new owner of a broken boat.I am going to be busy for awhile.
We will need to file a waiver request with the central office in order to get permission to work on non-jeep items.

Fill out a TPS form and I will try to rush it through for approval.

Dang, it's getting hard to keep up

well i was checking autozone to see if part numbers would match up but they are completely different
the part numbers are different, but that doesn't mean they won't work. i.e, the tie-rod swap for a TJ using GC parts, the Dakota steering box, later model intake swap and so on. Part numbers don't match, but it works

I've seen several GC's that are running shorter TJ front springs in the rear and taller TJ springs in the front to get a lift up to 6"s, so it can be done...

I'm curious as to what would happen if you put stock TJ front springs in the rear, how much lift would it give and what would you need in the front... I have three sets of stock TJ springs

Hi all I am wanting to price how much a 8.8 swap would cost me. Where is a reputable place to get it done in San Diego. What are the parts needed?
Jason got the parts low down. If you have it done in a shop with a gear set-up and alloy axles plan on $1,000 -$1,500 without a locker, add $500-$750 with a locker. If you DIY the major parts like pulling an axle removing the old mounts and such you can almost cut the cost in half. But, if you re-gera above your current ratio you have to re-gear the front. Price is axle only, SYE, drive-shaft, adjustable control arms and so on are extra.

I'd hit the junkyard, pull your own and join the crowd. When ya coming wheelin with us??

about the half price weekend and they said they start bringing in a crap load of new stock just before the weekend.
That's usually what they do, plus, larger items like wheels/tires, body parts and complete motor/trans tend to get picked, axles just aren't a big draw. You'll see a lot of people there from smaller body shops and garages, cars like Honda, Toyota etc get hit pretty hard

Please be sure it includes the anyone who works on gets to use it disclaimer

5.7 mercruiser chevy 350,only reason i would buy a boat with a bad motor, easiest motors to work on.
Chevy 350, hi-torque engine, needs to be rebuilt? So if we took the engine to Jason's garage, rebuilt it and one day Jason's Jeep suddenly had a 350 in it...

Found out I get a free e-brake assembly today. Gotta take my junk to the dealership and have it installed. Gotta love recalls!
Did that a couple of saturdays ago. Its nice :). rubber is still on the pull handle, Pedal and all! It kinda makes a annoying squeak tho. not sure whats making it. P.S. Do NOT buy a windshield screw from the dealership! Cost $5.91 for 1!! wow.

Thats too rich for my blood. I stated earlier that I was looking for a reputable place to have it done but I know that a lot of people do these swaps in their garages. I live in an apartment so that wouldn't work. Would it be better for me to find some 4cyl axles at the junk yard and put those in instead? If I got JY axles would there be any prep that I would have to do in order to put them in? I have been wanting to meet some offroaders and go to Ocotillo or to Glamis to check it out. Since the gas prices are so high I'll have to wait.

I am a student and am on budget but I would like to get lower gears to help out with gas mileage and also when I go offroad. Any advice would be appreciated.

Depends on what 'that' weekend is. Dates? I have an on-call weekend coming up and can't commit to anything on 'that' weekend. :teehee:

Can you explain what exactly you are trying to do? Why are you replacing axles in the first place? Just need a little back story here. Also, we have the work place to do anything you need done.
