just thought it would be a neat idea if someone could start a thread with only pics and info on home mods. write-ups wouldn't have to be included but a link to one would be nice if it is available. if someone likes the idea, start it up!

I have yet to have any problem with it and have been running that way for 8 months now. So unless you are a car thief who is smart enough to bring a magnet with you and intuitive enough to hold the magnet to the right spot on my panel and turn the ignition at the same time, or you have enough time to jack up my sterring column and get under my dash and rewire my clutch safety switch wires back together. you are not getting my jeep :)
That is a great idea. I had done something similar with a simple switch on my old samurai, but I really like the magnet idea. I would just make sure to have a few spare magnets, maybe tucked away in case someone thinks it is cool just to jack the one from your roll bar thinking they are being cute or "hey, look, a magnet" and it walks off.

That think looks great and doesn't look like it sits as high as some I have seen. It also doesn't look like it has the sidewalls that other pics show. Did you modify it in some way. This what I am thinking about getting, but the only thing I wasn't too sure of is how it will make the soft top stick up in the back as now it is nice and neatly tucked away between the rear of the roll bar and the back of jeep.

One thing about that type of advertisement..... Warn would paying me big buck to advertise their product like that! Not happening with me. I'll put it on mine if they want to send me a monthly check for it or donate everything that has their name on it.

Nah, Just messing with you about the warn out, not the free advertisement though. That is a little much but you are driving it, not me. :nono:

And I bet he paid for each and every one of those Warn decals with his own hard earned money. Unless he works for Warn or races for them I'd say he's posing.

No modifications to the extendatrunk at all. I'm real happy with the design. I don't run a soft top but I expect it would sit up higher in the back in my jeep as well. The top of the extendatrunk is just above or right at the height of the rear tailgate.

Couldn't they just pull the clutch safety switch fuse from the fuse panel? Not knocking the overall design or saying that most thieves would think of that but I would recommend putting the kill switch in a more disabling circuit like the starter circuit w/ a relay or the ignition switch circuit.

The magnet idea is nothing new. It's the ADE system. There's a full word document with schematics that tell you how to wire it up and have it work properly. Costs about $15 in parts.

It really wasn't that hard to do.

I used 4x4 3/16 inch thick square tube steel, 2 pieces of 6 inch wide flat stock, some 2 inch wide flat stock and a class 3 receiver tube from tractor supply company for the hitch. I am also brand new to welding, this was the first project I have done. Finished only with an angle grinder with cutoff wheels and some grinding discs and a few sandpaper discs. Paint is rattle can self etching primer and duplicolor low gloss black engine paint.

The angle and bevels were cut with the angle grinder & cutoff discs. the 4x4 tubing was cut in such a way as to slip together with the seams beveled to lay weld beads in, and welded beads around all the connections, then grind them down smooth.

Lot's of grinding was done :)

To cut the receiver tube hole I drilled holes in the 4 corners and used a sawzall to cut the square opening to size, slip the receiver tube in place, tack weld to keep it from moving. Then drill 4 holes from the backside, and plug weld the back of the receiver tube from inside until the 4 drilled holes were full. the rest was plain bead laying, with grinder and sandpaper discs to finish.

The d-ring tabs were done the exact same way. One funny note about the d-ring tabs, they are actually from my front bumper, they hung down, the maker of the bumper sells an approach roller option to put on that is supposed to make the bumper "roll" over obstacles that make contact with the bumper. I cut these off with a portaband,ground then down to a uniform shape since the cuts weren't perfect, then welded them onto my new rear bumper. This solved 2 problems, gave me the recovery tabs I wanted for the back, and got rid of these hideous things hangin from the front bumper for no good reason.

So how did you mount it to the frame... I really want to make one like yours.. It looks sweet...

I got the first coat of paint on the top side tonight.





so far it's cost me around $60-65 including the longer bolts and cut off wheels

Another coat or two of paint on the top and then some on the bottom and mount it and it's complete...

It's stitch welded to the back frame cap across the back, top bottom and side. I suppose you could make a bolt on mount for it with some threaded studs, or nutserts or something. I was shooting for maximum strength. It's going to be a real pain to cut it off if it needs to be removed, but felt it was worth it for the extra strength provided. not to mention, it will never be stolen LOL...

I also welded the rock rails on both sides with gussets to the frame.

I have an 06 rubicon unlimited, so I had longer rear corners than normal to protect from rocks etc... so I did this wraparound rear bumper to keep the tub safe :)

Use your screen name, start a company: Bulldog Bumpers. Make some Money and buy more jeep stuff. :laugh:

I think it looks great by the way, you should be proud! :thumbsup:
