Project Big Blue from the beginning to current. 1988 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 Pioneer (2dr). Originally a powder blue 'rust bucket', spent about 4 months repairing the body by myself (no previous experience with either bodyfiller or fiberglass) actually turned out quite good. Stripped entire vehicle down to metal shell and had it repainted "midnight blue" (so it would still somewhat match the blue interior) then slowly pieced it back together; still working on it mind you; repainted all trim pieces black, got creative and sprayed rear lights with tinting spray. I updated the 1980's dash cluster with a 1990's to make it look more "modern"-ish. Almost done with exterior, reused original carpet, seats, dashboard, rims and tires. (Although I sandblasted the rims and painted them black, also reusing the silver trim pieces). First 3 pics are Before pictures. Last 2 are after pictures. Any comments/suggestions? Feel free to share your thoughts.
a hole had rusted through on the passenger side but luckily the rust was just in that spot, the rest of the body was straight. we're gonna tackle the rust after we get the engine runnin smoothly
Wow this kinda cool, I have an 88 XJ too and am doin the same stuff to mine. About to start removing rusty parts and repairing body rust and getting a paint job to go with it then doing the upgrades for offroad.
Hey man any update? Just came across this thread and your jeep looks awesome! Way to go reusing so many parts.
I just picked up a WAY cheap 93 Grand Cherokee that turns over, but does not start. Think its a bad wire somewhere or a relay, or worse the CPU. But I will hopefully have it running soon and it will clean up as good as your 88.
Its pretty fun working on a jeep you have less then $300 in :cheers2:
i attempted to do everything myself so the most expensive single item was the paintjob
but yeah if your Grand Cherokee turns over, I assume the starter is gettin the necessary juice; I would look into any problems w/ the spark plugs first, then if all is well, check the fuel delivery system - maybe something got clogged? :ghost:
Man! What a great job you have done! I think I am going to have to bite your style and tinting the tail lights. I am very lucky, living out here on the west coast, I have no rust on mine. Just a little surface rust on the fenders from the 33's hitting. I just bought it a few months ago for $1000, loving every minute in it! Thanks for the ideas, time to get busy on mine!
Hello. I need some advice. I just bought an 88 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer. The antifreeze started leaking out from the resevoir (the bottom of it). Hose look ok, however, I know absolutely nothing about Jeeps and very little about mechanics. However, I am hoping to learn how to do all of this on my own. Where should I start?
