98 2.5 Fuel Injector O-rings?

Hey guys,

I've been slowly cleaning and replacing parts on both the intake and exhaust manifolds. In order to take the intake out I had to pull the fuel rail. At the time I wasn't worried about it and figured I'd pick up an o-ring kit at the local parts store. Problem is when I went to order them, the after market kit comes with 4 o-rings per injector.. two more than I need and they are not labeled top vs bottom. So I gave the dealer a call and they say they don't sell them anymore AND they don't have any part numbers for the kit either. I'm not looking to replace the injectors or anything fancy, at least not right now, I'm just looking to put it back together the way it came apart.

Has anyone ran into this problem or have part numbers for a kit? According to Mr. Haynes Manual the O-Rings for the top and bottom of the injector are not interchangeable.

Not sure if this helps but I got new o-rings when I bought a FelPro head gasket set. It came with 8 o-rings all identically sized. I only replaced the o-rings on the side of the injectors that mate with the intake manifold as I never removed them from the rail itself.

I suspect the o-rings are the same top and bottom. If you look at the FelPro kit specific for our model it states in the product applications section that two kits are required. This indicates to me they are the same size, but this is at best a guess.

According to a different forum the OEM o-rings for the top are the same ID but a larger OD. It isnt that much work to get the fuel rail off again if they leak, but what I'm mainly concerned with is getting some other set to work if the fel-pros don't. Really sucks that the dealer stopped making them. Thanks for the feedback tho, I do plan on getting the fel-pro set if I dont find any more info

I hate when threads have no conclusion and here I am adding to the problem. :highfive:

I wrestled with the injectors and fuel rail, and I got everything back together, no pinches or leaks to the best of my knowledge so I guess the haynes manual was wrong because they do seem to be interchangeable from top to bottom. I went with the fel-pro o-rings that come 4 in a pack.

*Note of caution* I also just realized a few days ago after going through hell and back looking for a part that the motor in my TJ is out of a late model YJ (95) probably. I'm not sure if this matters, but it does have multi-point injection so I don't know if the o-rings changed between years. In case anyone uses this thread to solve any problems, I figured that might be relevant info
