Is there any way to check if the carrier bearings are bad without having to take everything apart? I checked wheel bearings and pinion bearing...those seem fine. i was driving down the highway and at 75mph i let go of the throttle and i heard loud growling in rear end and it kinda shook the jeep. its a stock jeep by the way. 4x4. 128k miles. last time i had growling and shaking happen...my ring and pinion gears were messed up. so i got a new (well, used) dana 35. i could look at ring and pinion again, but wondering if there is any way to find out if carrier bearings are bad. thanks:)

Could be a number of things making that sound...I woud first look at the u-joints...and then all the wheel bearings...After you determine that the easy stuff is still good, I would imagine it is your pinion bearings more so then your carrier bearings..but the only way to determine that is to pull the cover and see if there are parts and pieces in the bottom of the case and check for play...
