prop shaft

While I was under my jeep tonight looking at the o2 sensor that I need to change tomorrow I noticed the rear seal on the prop shaft was torn. I have not used the vehicle in 4wd in some time. I'm sure the rubber dry rotted and cracked (2003 liberty). There is no weird noises coming from under there when I drive. My question is twofold, 1st since I have no plans of using the 4wd for awhile can I let this go for a short period of time before I repair it? 2nd does anyone make and sell a rebuild kit with new boots like for half shafts? Or do I need to buy a new shaft? I see NAPA has them for 408.00 I would rather rebuild it myself if possible.

You can replace the whole shaft, but I think I read there is a joint kit to service the rear joint. Even if you do not use the 4wd, that driveshaft turns whenever the vehicle moves. Jeep did away with the center disconnect in the 90s, as it created a weak point, added complexity, and there was just as many moving parts with or without it.
