i currently own a yj and am thinking about selling it for a zj. Simply because i want more power, better axles, and another project. My budget is limited to 7000, so i'm gonna have to get something with a good bit of miles on it. OF course it has to be 4wd, preferably not the Quadratac. So here's some questions?

1. IS the v8 a reliable engine?
2. What is included in the towing package(axles, gear ratios, reliability)?
3. Will the v6 push 33"s?
4. is the wheel pattern the same on ZJ's as it is on Yj's(5 on 4.5")?
5. Anything else i should know about specific models and years to avoid buying?
Thanks guys, hopefully i will be joining your ranks fairly soon:D :D

The V-8 is definatly reliable. The 5.2 Liter v-8 I have on my 94 grand cherokee has lasted me 188,000 miles and is still going.

My dad's GC has the high output v-8 and I love it. I would assume that it will last as long as the previous one, but its a new car so theres not many miles on it.

1. IS the v8 a reliable engine?
Yes. For the most part.
2. What is included in the towing package(axles, gear ratios, reliability)?
Towing package would include 3.73's, hitch, etc. 95 and earlier came with a dana 35 axle and 96 up, with a v-8 came with a dana 44A {aluminum center section}. The 35 is a weak axle, and the 44A will handle 31's. Not recommended for anything larger.
3. Will the v6 push 33"s?
There never was a V-6 in a grand. Just the I-6, V-8, and deisel in Europe.
4. is the wheel pattern the same on ZJ's as it is on Yj's(5 on 4.5")?
Yes
5. Anything else i should know about specific models and years to avoid buying?
96 and up were better. The v-8's only came with quad drive and had low lock, and the better rear end.
