Come to find out it was a U bolt that some how allowed to rear to move within the springs...just a few turns of a wrench and was fine... WINDROCK trip went well...broke nothing!!! I did have one MAJOR problem.. when climbing straight up the hills...my CJ would spit and sputter and sometimes (many times) die...was feathering the gas all day...I'm thinking a carb. issue... ANY ADVISE??

Is it JUST going up steep hills? or anytime you are under load? Like, does it also sputter if you floor it in a high gear and low RPM?

If its just hills, then probobly just in the carb, ie bad float, etc.
If anytime under load, then could be a long list. ie ignition system (plugs, caps, wires). The engine needs a strong spark when under load, so you don't always notice you need a tuneup until you start going up a hill.

Or maybe odd things, timing way off, bad vac leak, stuck choke, etc.
