2014 Grand Wagoneer - 7 seater aimed at Mercedes GL, Escalade, and other luxury SUV's. (full article here)

excerpt: For its 2014 model year, Jeep will move upmarket with the release of its largest and most expensive Jeep, the Grand Wagoneer, which will compete with the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GL and other luxury SUVs. The seven-passenger vehicle will share a platform with the Grand Cherokee. But it will be different from Jeep's previous seven-seater, the Commander, as the Grand Wagoneer's wheelbase and rear overhang will be stretched to make the Grand Wagoneer's second- and third-row seating more comfortable.

Given the now iconic status of the original, I'm betting we will see this remake. Just hold the faux woodgrain in 2014...

2011 Durango/ Wagoneer:

Note the re-designed Durango ? Setup so you can simply swap a Grand Cherokee grill and shazzam Grand Wagoneer. . . . Yup Cryco bamboozled ya again ;-) !

Except that the Durango is only available with all wheel drive while the Grand Wagoneer would likely have the 4 wheel drive systems from the Grand Cherokee. So not a complete bamboozle.

Ya well by the time the "brand new" waggy hits dealer lots its super structure and power train is already 3-4yrs old ;) Tho that will give'm enough time to work out any defects and/or bugs

Still just a badge engineered rig with a power train swap :(

Next should a Honcho shortbed stepside, Full sized Jeep Sporty truck accompanied by the Wrangler based sporty truck ;)

Only Chrysler realized this got them into the problem they were/are in... I realize this is a shortcut/cheap way to approach this. But I don't think Sergio will be interested in taking the same present and wrapping it in different paper. Wagoneer does have heritage and tradition, he knows this, more processes will most likely go into the Wagoneer.

Fiat love's tradition and heritage, So if Jeep DOSE enter the F/S market with a Wagoneer its only a matter of time before the taste and demand for Jeep pickups will rise . . .

So if Chrysler Jeep wants to stay truck free they better squash the Waggy ASAP and stay out of the Full size market PEROID ! ! !

Other wise they will eventually have a TRUCK again, Just watch ;)

Well it just seems how uncanny well the NEW G/C grill fits over/onto the NEW Durango grill.
I'm hopping they do more to it, It just seems like an easy "New Vehicle" to me ;)

I myself don't do SUV's I like 2dr performance cars and 2dr trucks, The wifey hates her CryCo Mini-van and wants to go back to a V8 Wagoneer like she used to have.

Checked out the new Durango today and it is an awesome vehicle, hopefully the new Wagoneer if it comes to light is just as good as the durango / GC twins. Starting to really think Chrysler is benefiting hugely from Fiat :)

I think the Grand Wagoneer is going to be a great vehicle. Hopefully it's a little better packaged than the Commander, and has the same sort of high quality interior that you get in the Grand Cherokee (maybe even nicer). The new Durango is doing very well, as is the Grand Cherokee, and I think a Grand Wagoneer will do quite well.

I don't see the Commander starting at $60k. Topping out, maybe, but not starting. The most expensive Overland Summit you can build is MSRP'd at around 51k. The Durango starts at around $2k more than the GC Laredo, and given that a loaded Citadel is roughly $50k, I think you'll see the most expensive Grand Wagoneer MSRP'ing in the $55-60k range, unless they come out with some new features over the GC (fancy turbo v8, fancy transmission, etc.) which could push it up into the $65k range.

I think that Jeep is seeing with the failure of the WK2 SRT8 that there's a price barrier for Jeeps nowdays, and that they simply can't sell vehicles for over $60k. Are they good vehicles? Sure. But in this economy, a person that can afford a $60k vehicle can also likely afford some nice stuff from MB, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Land Rover, etc. and it's going to be tough to sell them a Jeep.

If Jeep really wants people to take notice, I think they could do it with a world beating GW priced under $65k as loaded as it gets. Things like having cooled rear seats, a slick handsfree power liftgate (like the new Ford Escape has), surround view parking cameras, etc. could help build a product that could not only stand against the higher end competition, but also best them in some areas. Indeed a big part of the reason I bought my Overland is it simply bested the competition, I looked at AWD RX350s before deciding on the Jeep and the Jeep was pound for pound better equipped than the Lexus, blew the LR4 out of the water in features, and really the only vehicle that could come close in terms of features was the Merc GL and BMW X5. An X5 would have been great, but I'd have wanted a diesel or turbo engine, and those were hugely expensive, and still lacked some features of the Jeep.

I think Jeep can do it again with the GW, I just don't think it will be the same as the original in demographics and success.

I will definitely look at them when they start hitting lots. We had a '06 Commander Limited and loved it. Unfortunately my wife changed jobs and had to commute much further so we had to sell it for something more economical for her since I had a 300C and wouldn't have made a difference if she took the blue whale. But now that I work a little closer to home, we definitely would consider a GW when they arrive.

The Grand Wagoneer is going to be starting in the $50,000 range. To be frank, it's not for us. It's a full-size, luxury off-road SUV. It's aimed at people who would normally buy Range Rovers and G-Wagens.

Speak for yourself. As a former Range Rover owner (will never go there again) and a current BMW 535xi wagon owner, I would buy a Grand Wagoneer in a second if it is at least as good as the Grand Cherokee. The only thing holding me back from buying the Grand Cherokee as a replacement to the BMW wagon, is the lack of cargo capacity (and the diesel). While I could afford the new Mercedes GL, I would much prefer not having to spend $70K+. Hopefully they bring it soon or else I won't have much of a choice...

Q7 is big on the outside but not very big on inside and just doesn't do it for me. Grand Cherokee has more cargo space than 535xi wagon but it just doesn't have enough space to make the jump. X5 is a bit bigger but still just not enough. We love BMW and the service we get so I would love to stick with the brand. I have an M3 and my folks have an X5 diesel.
If nothing is out by this time next year I will probably just get the diesel Grand Cherokee and make use of our roof top cargo box. I'm hoping the Grand Wagoneer shows up before then.

blasphemy. all of it. it probably has independent front and rear suspension, a horrible awd transfer case, leather everything, electric everything. and as unreliable as all get out. even my zj (thats a 98 gc for the newbs) is way more nice (and capable) than any new "jeep" will ever be.

I don't know. I seem to remember the old Grand Wagoneers being pretty posh for their era. Leather seats, air, pw/pl, ect. That being said I don't want to see a Jeep branded Durango. I'm fine if they use the chassis, but it should be it's own animal. I could see how a modernized version of the Grand Wagoneer's style would look killer blended into the Durango's chassis. If the Grand Wagoneer was the epitome of off road capable luxury in it's day, why should it be any different now? I'd hope we wouldn't see anything like a giant Liberty "jet" where people are buying an off road capable vehicle with low profile tires on it, but given that seems to be the way things are going style-wise it's bound to happen. I think I'd rather see an actual Grand Wagoneer. A big, luxurious, but capable SUV. Something on some big tires that's as able to take people to the theatre as it is up the side of a mountain. To me, that's what this vehicle should be. Not just some Escalade clone. Unfortunately, that's probably just what we'll see.

I think what we'll see is a better Jeep Commander Limited and above to be honest.

The Commander was a capable 4x4, but also was a pretty nice vehicle that could be decked out to be a very nice truck for its time. I don't think the Wagoneer will be revolutionary, it will be evolutionary off the WK2. I'm sure it will be a super luxurious truck at top trim levels, very much like the WK2.

It won't sell if it doesn't have all the toys of a luxury vehicle. I would almost guarantee it will come with 18s and 20s, possibly with an optional set of 22s. I bet most of them will come with Quadralift, and never see more offroading than parking halfway on the lawn one day.

I would also bet that if you decided to buy a second set of steel wheels or other smaller wheels and bigger or snow tires, you'll have a very competent vehicle. The vast majority of people that will buy them will not use them in that way. Those who intend to will likely buy an extra set or 2 of wheels.
