OK, so 10 years ago, I had a 95 YJ, and nowadays I love my 99 TJ. It's my DD and my weekend mud-toy, and the reason for probably 75% of my swear words.

I've waved and been waved at for years, and I know about it. It's exciting to see another Jeeper with obvious pride in his/her rig out on the road. CJs wave, YJs and TJs wave, even TJ Unlimiteds and X drivers know about it. I've been conducting my own not-so-scientific experiment with the JKs, because they DON'T SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT THE WAVE.

Am I missing something?

PS I know this isn't a "technical" issue, but this is where I post and reply more than anywhere else, and the people in here seem to have more answers than elsewhere.

The Jeep wave will never die and I love it! Agree with what many have said about JKs not waiving as often. Maybe this was said somewhere already, did not read all posts, but...I was getting new tires today on my 06 Rubicon and the guy that put them on came out and said "that's the last year of the REAL Wrangler...the new ones are SUVs!" Not sure I entirely agree and I am not trying to start a war or words with JK owners. They DO most certainly have a real Jeep...but they are different for sure. I specifically sought out the 06 to get the 4.0 engine. To each his own. Jeep on!!!

My wife has a JKU and she waves, The other day she waved at a guy in a Wrangler, he waved back and motioned for her to roll down her window at the stop light. She did and he said she was the first woman that has waved and he was going to tell everyone that he got a wave from a woman in a four door Wrangler.

Having been a fan if the Jeep wave since I was a kid, I was surprised last week (at first) while in Moab because nobody ever waved. But I quickly realized that nearly 1 out of 5 vehicles in Moab was a Jeep.

Is it just that you'd be constantly waving, so it gets skipped there?

about a month ago i had a spell where nobody waved to the jeepster. typically the guys with the super lifts and huge super swampers scoff at my all black gutted YJ with black rims on 32" tires and a 3" lift, that doesn't bother me (snoodies). But for like an entire month i didn't get the wave back. That pisses me off because it annoys me that i even wave but i feel bad for people that I don't wave to because i get mad when i don't get it.

So how did i solve this?

I gleefully gave all jeep drivers the finger for a week.

I'm back to happy waving. :)

lotta JKs wave around my parts, but I am in a JK myself (I miss a lot too, my friend tells me, I'm usually too attentive to THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME)

given some of the posts in this thread, I can fully understand why some JK owners would swear off waving at all to older Jeeps.

I just think the entire argument is a pathetic one.

I've caught myself doing exactly that... I'm out on the road for nearly a month in my 38' RV, towing my LJ. And on more than one ocassion I've found myself waving at a Jeep, and getting a funny look back. In one case, the driver of the other Jeep realized I had my LJ in tow as he passed me, and he gave me a nice wave out the window (that I could see in my mirror) as he drove the other way.

I posted above that there was almost zero "Jeep waving" in Moab last week. But this week I'm in Ouray, CO (and Silverton, CO - the Alpine Loop) - and nearly every Jeep waves. Quite a contrast...

Despite being crawling with Jeeps (Ba-dum-PISH.), nobody in the Yukon Jeep Waves, which I find weird.

Even weirder, though, is that all the guys with imported JDM FJ-40s and such (There's a LOT) wave to each other, and occasionally to Jeeps. I've gotten more waves from Jeep-esque vehicles than other Jeeps here...

it's getting awkward... I feel like half the Jeeps in my small town only wave because of how enthusiastic and religious I am about waving

And we have like 2-3 old classic willy's here... and they don't wave. bastards :)

I think who waves is a regional thing.

What I've noticed since I got my Jeep:
Guys in JKUs wave.
Guys in beat up old jalopy Jeeps wave.
Guys in TJs don't wave.
Guys in YJs do wave.
Guys in clean Rubis either ignore me or give me the finger.
Guys in filthy Rubis wave.

Women in anything that says "Jeep" on it wave -- including one smokin' hottie in an ancient Wagoneer.

The one guy who owns an H1 Hummer waves.
People in H2 Hummers are oblivious to anything but themselves.
Women in H3 Hummers give dirty looks like you're stalking them if you wave.
Men in H3 Hummers give me the finger.

Everybody on I-95 gives me the finger (for doing 55), except other CJs and Wranglers who are in the right lane behind me also doing 55, like a big convoy.

Always wave, always have...and always hate when TJ, YJ, and CJ drivers ignore me. I'd like a sticker that refers to this NOT being my first Jeep, so wave damn it! :D

BTW -- the best thing is when you and a built Cherokee or some other form of Jeep exchange waves... That there is respect.

It's rare, and it is usually obvious it is someone who knows the community.
