Ok, I know this is a common problem and us Jeep Owners just have to learn to live with it, but I need to vent a little so I'll feel better and also give the Newbiews a heads up.

We have a 07 Jeep Liberty that we purchased one year ago and I've had the Driver Rear Window Regulator replaced Twice from the Dealership and the Passenger Rear Window Regulator replaced Once. Last night the Drivers-side Rear Window Regulator broke again, causing the window to slide down about half way. It rained last night and this morning the back seat and floor was covered with water not to mention my briefcase and all its contents. This will be the THIRD time for this window to be replaced. All this in just the 1 year that we've owned it. Hmmm??? But I'm still a Jeep Diehard.

I believe the Factory has fixed this problem but I have a feeling the Dealership is still replacing the Window Regulator only with the same revision.
(In other words, another one that will break in about 6months and its back to the dealership).

It appears this is a common problem with 1st Gen Jeep Libertys and Chrylser knows about it, they just don't want to issue a Recall because they feel it will costs too much. (I don't think they're taking in consideration what this is doing from a Marketing standpoint). Anyone I talk to I tell them to get a outside warranty (like WarrantyDirect) and make sure they buy their house next to a Jeep Dealership.

And on.... I hear the problem is a Little Plastic Connector that attaches the Cable to the Bracket. Had it been made out of anything but Cheap Plastic, it would hold up like a 57' Chevy Window. But to save some Costs in building the Jepp Libertys, Chrylser decided to save $.27 cents on this cheap plastic cable connector and spend $600. dollars on replacing 20% of all their cars. Now....I'm not a math whiz.....but even with basic math, I can see the writing on the wall here.

Ok, e'nuff grumbling.... Some action. I'm going to ask the dealership if I can have the old parts, even if I have to buy them back from them, so I can ReDesign a new Metal Connector and Metal Guide Sleeve.

If the Dealer refuses, then I'll go to Plan B. I'll buy several rolls of Duct Tape, use my Sawzall to make a 10" slit through the outside of my door all the way through to the inside. Then I'll loop several rolls of Duct Tap over the window, down along the door to the slit, through to the inside and back around about 20 times. If someone in the back needs the window open, I can simply pull over, cut the duct tape, let the window fall to the bottom and Walaa. (Jeff Foxworthy would be so proud of me). I might even tape a Roll of Duct Tape on the front of the hood as a Jeep Hood Ornament. If we all do that, then when we pass each other out there on that long desert highway, we'll know who our Regulator Brothers and Sisters are. Just honk and hold up how many times you've had your Jeep Liberty Windows fixed.

ps. For you old timers out there, please don't hold up both hands and feet.

If you saw how idiotic Johnson County Kansas drivers are then you would panic too! It is downright hysterical how clueless they are while driving.

hbrulez - We all need to vent but perhaps you should be venting to Chrysler and not here. This thread has multiple pages of ways to resolve this problem, yet you resurrect this thread just to complain. Not very productive and most of us would rather not look at your literary diarrhea.

Three posts and nothing but *****ing = me blocking you. :ignore:

Jeep Liberty Window

For the second time in 4 years I am having issues with my 2006 jeep liberty windows. The first time the dealership replaced it for free due to the warranty. I contacted the dealership again and they told me that it's going to cost me an arm and two legs cause I was 4K MI. over the warranty...... I took the door apart yesterday and investigated the issue. After about an hour of fun, I found that the spring that guides the window up and down is not sitting properly inside the window base. The motor to the window works fine. Has anyone found this to be an issue for them as well? If so, any tips outside of bringing it to the dealership? The closest one for me is about an hour away, and its winter time and rains a-lot in the northwest, so I prefer to take care of this at home. :D Thanks!!!! The spring stays seated on the down, but once the windows goes about half way down, and it looses its grip and the window slides into the door. Thanks!

Jeep Liberty Window Regulator - Warranty?

Looks like the owners of 2006-2007 Jepp Libertys with window regulator problem might be getting some relief. I got a letter today saying they are extending the warranty on these to 7 years and unlimited miles. They are also accepting claims for previous repairs. The jury is still out but I am going to submit my 6 claims at least! They refer only to the "lift plate repair" (which in my case now causes the window to go up crooked). I talked to the local dealer and he said this might not cover broken cables which I think is the primary issue, at least on my 6. We'll see! ;.)

Jeep Liberty (06-07) window regulator followup

I do not have a scanner connected to my pc but the letter is dated Dec. 15, 2010 from Chrysler Group LLC. It said to contact your local Jeep Dealer.

Followup - I took my 06 Liberty in to S J Denham in Redding, Calif. and service advisor had it inspected and said they will replace the regulator under the warranty at no cost to me. However he said parts were on back-order so he ordered parts and will contact me as soon as they arrive. That has been 3 days and he said it should take 2 weeks max. P.S. He also said they will replace the window seal was was "too tight" at the same time at no cost. I will wait and see!

I have filed a claim with Chrysler for the 4 I replaced (only receipts I could find) and am still waiting for response!

At least they have confurmed this is a problem. We'll see if they follow up!

Thanks Abbera for these details. Appreciate it. I will give it a try.

FYI Jeep has extnded the warranty for 7 years from date of purchase for '06 and '07 liberty window regulators, unlimited milage. This isn't a recall but i got a letter from jeep. Your dealer should know about this. If you need me to email you the letter let me know -
Hi Mike, could you please email me this letter. My dealership says they can't find it, although the 1-800Customer Service can bring it up on their system in minutes. I would love to have a copy to laminate and tape to all my windows the next time I take it back in.

Thanks ...Ron

recently i have had problems with my 03 liberty. we took it too several places regarding the water only on the drivers side (and the back seat). we had the a/c checked to see if that was the cause but it wasn't. so we ended up taking it to a glass shop where they discovered that the seal wasn't tight anymore so we had the windsheild replaced. However this did not solve the problem. we tried drying it out with a heavy duty vacuum by sucking out the water but it keeps coming back especially since it continues to rain (live in washington st), so the problem has gotten worse. havent gone to a dealership since i bought mine used and they generally cost more than it should be. currently we are at a lose for a solution.

The Regular Window Regulator

Well, just got back from Normandin Jeep Dealership in San Jose and they fixed the same passenger right window again. The first thing Jason said was "no worries, we'll fix it, we know there is a revised warranty on these windows, will honor that and it won't cost you a dime". I was floored so I said in that case, I'd like to add a Oil Change at charge. Window and Oil Change done within two hours. I'll have to check to see if they have a Detail Dept as I might as well pay to get it Washed and Waxed while I have the day off. Although I must say (as pizzed as I am about these freakin windows), Normandin Jeep in San Jose has always given me great service and Jason is an Excellent Service Manager. Some of the other Advisors walking around informed me that Chrysler has no plans of changing the Plastic Part that keeps breaking because they have thousands in stock and the Dealerships have no plans of fixing the Window with the "Metal" aftermarket part, because of the money they make from the Factory. So....here's a simple quick solution until you have the time to get it fixed from the Dealership. Take a Paint Paddle stick, apply two way sticky tape, insert down the window jam area, press the sticky side to the Window and then gently pull up the Window to the point where you can grab it. Then pull it up all the way and attach Duck Tape up one side of the Window, over the door top and then back down to the otherside of the Window. This will at least hold the window up until you can take it in to the shop. Next, remove all Valuables from the Jeep as the Duck Tape makes a statement to the bad guys, that this Jeep is ripe for the pickin.
I can't believe after reading about the DW on the Wranglers, that I'm about to trade my Corvette for a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. :2thumbsup:

2007 Jeep Liberty Power windows FIXED!

Since I owned my 2007 Jeep Liberty, I had to replace the left rear twice and the front right once. Then, a while back I received a letter from Chrysler. They said if my windows were working, I didn't need to do anything but, if one fails, they will replace all at no charge. (Kind-of-a-quasi-recall?) They also provided me a reimbursement form for any previous cost.

Then, on August 12, 2011, the right rear fell down and would not go up. Since I could not lock the car and it was 101 degrees outside, I immediately took it to my Dodge-Jeep dealer and asked them to fix the window as I showed them my letter. Later, when I went to check on the vehicle I found they were replacing all four window parts. They said according to the problem and my letter, they might as well solve the problem once and for all. I think the invoice said over $300 dollars but it was no charge to me!
Luckily they did not have to replace the glass because my front two are tinted. Since that is not a stock item, I would have to re-tint them at my expense.

Now I am a happy Jeep driver again and will keep my fingers crossed the problem is resolved permanently and of course, I will keep a copy of my letter from Chrysler.

Is the recall/advisory only for 06/07 KJ's?

I'm asking because I have a 2004 KJ limited and right now my front driver's side window and rear passenger side window are broken, I've placed a ziptie around the track where the base of the window slider meets so that both windows stay up and closed. This is really very annoying.

HustlinFlip asked, “Is the (window regulator) recall/advisory only for 06/07 KJ’s?
First, for other readers, let me provide a definition of “KJ”. First Generation Jeep Liberty (2002-2007) is referred to as Chryslers Platform KJ.

I received the letter in 2010, three years after buying it. I am the original owner and when I took it in for service last week, it had 59K miles on it.
When I received my letter from Chrysler, it was simply addressed to me as a “2007 Jeep Liberty Owner”.
The letter contained my address and VIN Number. (That is why I won’t display it on the web.) It said the free service was not limited by mileage but expired seven years after the in-service date.

Since your model is a 2004, by my calculations, that makes your vehicle at least 7 years old or possible older, since new cars usually come out in the fall of the previous year. I would immediately check the in-service date and hopefully you will get lucky. I called my Jeep Service Manager and he said, “It covered 2007 and most 2006 models but, they would need the last 8 digits of your VIN number to see about your model.”

^ Thanks for your reply!

I phoned several Jeep dealerships in my area and they were unaware of anything involving my vehicle other than the ball joint recall. Currently I'm on the phone with Chrysler/Jeep customer service to see if they can do anything for me.

EDIT: No dice... :( Guess I'm stuck with a bill for one window and 2 currently broken windows until I can afford the metal pieces posted in here and have the time to fix it all.

Why is everyone letting the dealer put those same cheap plastic parts back in? They will just fail again. Get the metal replacements from here

http://www.steigerperformance.com/products/sp13001.html

The instructions are so easy and untrained monkey could do it in less than an hour. :2thumbsup:

I just got back from my dealer after getting both rear windows fixed (again) on my '06 Liberty.

Apparently they now have what they call "lift plates" which are reinforced with metal to replace the older plastic parts that break. They must have ones for original regulators and the newer ones (I had both types on the rear.)

Last summer Jeep replaced both front window regulators and glass (for the 2nd or3rd time)

All this paid for by Chrysler Customer Service. Make the complaint call to them and get the case # from the agent to give to your dealers service writer. Makes the process alot easier.

2006 Jeep Window & regulators

I am an American expat living south of Cancun. I purchased a new 2006 Jeep Liberty in Playa Del Carmen dealership in June 2007. NEVER AGAIN!

I paid cash for my vehicle and did not understand that in Mexico, if you change your own oil, the total vehicle warranty is voided! I did a stupid thing, I changed my own oil not understanding the implications.

Since then, I have replaced the drivers front window and regulator 2 times, the rear drivers window and regulator 2 times, the remaining windows and regulators each one time.

Yesterday - the rear drivers side window fell into the door while i was driving AGAIN! This means the 7th new window and regulator! Why cant Jeep get this right! This is on a vehicle with 30,000 miles on it.

The dealership has made it very clear that I voided the warranty and will do nothing. In fact, when I have gone to the dealership, the woman at the repairs desk has been incredibly rude and will not help me - guess it is the blond hair?

I will never again buy a Jeep - my dollars will all go to Ford. In the meantime - i am looking for a Cancun vacationer to fly down the parts from the US since the cost is more than double in the US.

This is bordering on insanity!

Don't go to the dealer. Get your parts from here.

Do it yourself. The instructions are so simple a 6 month old could do it. And all the parts are metal, no more plastic.

the poor man fix

some may cringe, but i found a cheap fix, assuming that the point of failure is where the cable threads into the plastic clip. i trimmed away what was left of the plastic threads and drilled two holes, aligned with the rail that the cable is in. i then cleaned the thread at the end of the cable and wrapped some 20 ga galvanized wire tightly in the threads of the cable, along the inch or so at the end. i gave the wire a couple of twists, and then ran the ends of the wire through the two holes i drilled in the plastic clip. i wrapped the ends of the wire several times and trimmed the ends.

be sure that you leave enough slack so that the plastic clip doesn't bind as it travels up and down the track. here's a few photos.

I've got Steiger kits on both my KJ's rear windows, but the front passenger window has decided to do something different - rather than dropping into the door, it's stuck in the fully-up position. You can hear the motor running but the window doesn't move. Anyone have any experience of this?

I haven't got round to pulling the door panel to see what's going on, but I'm concerned that since it's jammed closed, it will be very difficult to get the regulator separated from the window and out of the door due to lack of access space.

Hey guys! I've just recently bought a 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4. Owned it now for almost a month and driving to work today I noticed the rear passenger side window was opened. Tried closing it and it would not go up at all. The window is stuck inside the door and it rained all day today, whole back seat is wet!!!!... Still love my Jeep tho but man!... I thought I had the perfect vehicle until this happened. I still love it, but from everyones post I guess this is going to be an ongoing problem for me too... I might just tell my mechanic to ductape, glue or just do something to keep the window up and never use it again. Reading from everyone's post sounds like it has a hard time keeping the window up in place...

Here it is 2012 and i knew nothing about the regulators in the Liberty. My daughter (in college) called me saying her rear driver's side window wont go up. She drove it home and i started to research the net and discovered this is a common problem with Libertys. I found this video on how to jury rig it until getting it fix. I stink at fixing stuff and it took me !5 minutes to fix the issue so she can return to school until i get the mental parts this thread informed me about.

Yep, that video is what I did when the clip for my window motor broke. Then I got the steiger part. I'd rather have working windows, especially when I have others in the car during the summer.
