I noticed the build thread sticky at the top of the page and realized that I never started a build thread on this forum. Most of this has already been posted in a build thread on JU, but I thought it might be nice to have it here too. Done!

In the end I ended up spending well over 60 hours on this project. It was worth it though! The paint does not match the Jeep exactly, and I did some damage to the paint as I was installing it. But then I realized that this bumper was made to take offroad and get beat up. I'm sure when I hit up the Colorado trails this summer it will get plenty of scratches. So the paint flaws are really a non-issue. Someday I plan on doing a complete repaint in the NATO sand paint color available on the new JK's, but that is years down the road. So the current paint will do for the time being.

My next plans, in no particular order:

Painted grill and door handles
4xGuard belly, rear, and front skids
4xGuard sliders
Custom rock rails
new dash tweeters to replace the blown Kicker ones

wow man. i gotta say, i've always figured if my zj goes down i'd buy another one and transfer the parts. but seeing your rig makes me really really want a WK instead. awesome work on it  btw enter this thing in GCOTM and you've sure got my vote

Yeah, I've had two ZJ's and thought the 5.9 was the sweetest Jeep I'd ever own. That was until I saw the AEV Mojave concept and decided I just had to build one!

that is a nice looking WK. i realy like it,

so when is the SAS swap?
Hopefully someday! I'd love to throw 2 JK D44's under there. The problem is how the computer would deal with losing its wheel sensor inputs to the traction control/roll mitigation system. I know there are others out there talking about it, I'm kind of waiting for someone else to be the guinea pig. I hear Saguaro 4x4 might be working on it too. That or maybe someday when the WK is not my primary means of transportation I wont care if I have a bunch of warning lights and inoperative systems.

beautiful work man, and where are you located at in texas?
Thanks. I was in Corpus Christi, but now I'm stationed in FL. I'll probably be back in TX someday though.

Thanks guys!

I hope my build thread is technical enough ;)

Yeah... I've pained 5 or 6 vehicles but the welding has been a learning experience for sure. I have a new gained respect for people who are good at it! Yep, its clear coated. And I actually shot it with rattle cans... I have access to a HVLP system and will probably borrow that or just buy a high pressure gun to repaint it. Yeah, I already have to repaint it. It turns out PRH and PRJ are different colors! They are listed as the same paint code as far as touch up goes because they are similar, but on an entire panel the color difference is obvious. Its the same for all of the trim I painted also. Oh the joys of painting

That thing is SWEET man! Great work! And you my friend are a brave soul to cut that bumper all up after spending that kinda money on it but it turned out awesome!

why remove the winch capability? Looks great though.

Due to the fact that I shortened the overall length, a winch will no longer fit behind the bumper. So because I have to notch the unibody to get a winch to fit anyway, I plan to eventually just build a cradle into the unibody as others have done. I would have left the winch provisions, but I plan on going with a hawse fairlead and hidden solenoid, so it was just logical to remove everything. Unfortunately the winch project probably wont come around to next winter, but the plans are in the works!

Thanks!

I'm heading to Ouray Co in a little over a month for some 4x4ing (go figure I'm going to be a few days too late for GSW) so I figured I'd best fix the front suspension. The bumper lowered the front suspension about 1/2 an inch. So I purchased some Rustys spacers.

These spacers are really made for those without a spacer already, but they work with the SL spacer *barely*. Any lower and the spacer itself would contact the body right at the spring perch.

I also added some JBA disconnects and replaced the tie-rod end I ruined during the initial lift install.

before the spacer:

after:

The difference is subtle, but I regained the 1/2" as advertised

Then it was off to Goodyear for a laser alignment
