This dude's got me thinking about my build.

He’s the sore loser from the XJ/COTM fame. I don’t know if you guys noticed, but he was up at RC the last time we were there. So he is selling his XJ (and DD) and buying another one to make it more streetable. He had one similar to mine (you’d think they were separated at birth) with minor differences like tube doors and the crappy D30 lockout conversion on the front. Spyntec/Solid makes a good one for TJs,XJs,MJs, etc that would hold up to 35s. So he is selling what he has to build what he had.
So anyway, I’m starting to wonder why I need 37s/36s and heavy a$$ axles. Want mine to still be streetable, but it wont fit in the garage anymore after I put the new axles under and 36s/37s. The XJ isn’t a daily driver tho. I drive it once a week to keep things fresh(er). Any opinions?

Krash, nope I got nothing accomplished

Krash I could see the lure of 36/37s but once you get so big there's not much fun running trails anymore. You can run over bigger rocks true but who will keep up with you? You would also have a difficult time fitting in between tight spots on wooded trails. Additionally, if you can't get it in your garage it will really start to suck when you have to work on it in the cold weather and larger tires will likely mean more maintenance.

Thanks Josh. Yeah, I've weighed it many times. The thing is, I've had half the parts (axles, housings, etc) from when I was gonna build the TJ. All this from needing a solution to stop wasting the unit bearings on the XJ now.

by the time i get done doing the SpynTec on the 30, it will have cost me 2500 and I wont be able to sell that because I'll be using it. It was a wash in cost, after I swap axles and tires and sell the sht I am taking off.

I like the trails we do and carnage is not what I am looking for - I have fun w/o breaking anything more than parking brakes, FPs and the occasional u joint. 35's don't need a 60 really, should have just done the 8.8 instead a long time ago.

No I dont want you to cut your spare! The 242 im putting hers dose have a 1inch difference then the 249 in there now so unless I swap the tc's I wont have one to cut, if I had a baby sitter id run up to the jy and grab one for 20$ that we could cut, plus I dont get off work till 8-8:30 tonight and im sure you and the welder will be in bed by then

I understand having parts with nothing to do with them. I had a really nice waggy 44 I was going to put under mine back in IN. But the ex decided that we needed to move to NYC and I had to get rid of all of my stuff before I could sell it. It was a really f$%king shame to see a perfectly good axle housing go into a recycling center because I couldn't get rid of it in time.
I'm sure there will be other rigs in the future to use those on. Or you could raise your garage!!! :-)
