The OBDII scanner can read the codes and reset them but it can't re-program the computer, that takes a StarScan, very expensive! Even with that it's all menu driven and won't let you enter non-compatible programs but does let you enter add on accessories. We'd have to find a way to override the system and that's way beyond my expertise!

They could also find a way to run a transfer case and give us everything we want too, but that adds more weight. Their sales philosophy is probably if the FDII won't handle your needs it's time to move up the food chain to a Liberty or beyond.
hah hah... I"m a mopar guy... there is no "good enough". I want everything, every way, all the time...

I find it highly improbable that they removed the routines that create the autostick functionality... That's just NOT how Chrysler has ever done stuff. If it doesn't have to be changed, they don't. And that has made a lot of guys who play with stuff and do mods quite happy. But that they did do some minor tweaking so that signals on pins are directed to OTHER subroutines is probably the issue. I'm sure there's ways of hacking the system, but at this moment, I'd say it's not going to be easy, like adding autostick to an LH car, or to an FDI without it.

I once applied to be on the CAB, as I recall, but never got a formal answer. They probably have some psychic there who knows I would have suggestions and ideas for absolutely everything and so I got ignored.

In any case... This whole thing reminds me of the guy who hacked the controller on the diesels, and DCX got seriously bent out of shape... but couldn't do much becuase he wasn't in the US. I have a little box on my 04 right now, that re-writes the stock ECU and can restore it to stock, supposedly leaving no trace, doing so through the connector, ergo, not even pinched wires However, since mine has way over 100K miles, Chrysler's just not relevant

Well, this leaves me sort of wondering what I'm going to do. Maybe I'll just go see if I can find me a cheap used Cherokee instead...

"Retro" always suits me just fine! I've thought about it myself, for a real off road vehicle, but for staying on the road during the winter this new electronics stuff sure makes it easy.
