Where's a good place to start learning skills? New jeep owner

Hello. My name is Sam. I have a 2009 Jeep Patriot and I absolutely love it! I bought it over a year ago and ever since then I've been having a huge desire to get under the hood and start working on it. I love the feeling I get after I change my oil but my problem though is that my car knowledge isn't great. I've been working hard on learning new skills. I've learned how to change the oil, air filter, spark plugs, and other little things like that. My question though is where do I go from here? How do I take my automotive skills to the next level? Are there any good books or tools for someone starting out on automotive repair/maintenance?

Start with a service manual. Google search for a download.

if you don't have it, get an owners manual, and see where you are as far as services go... I will say, as a shade tree mechanic... Don't fix it if it ain't broke... Don't waste your time and money on things that don't need to be touched AND if the service manual says it takes an hour, give yourself 4, and have an alt. mode of transportation just in case you can't get done what you need to.
