wheel and tyres????!!! PLEASE HELP - PATRIOT

Right... im hoping you guys can help, im a newbie to 4x4 and ive just bought a 42K black jeep patriot 2008. At the moment i have on what look like the standard road tyres the jeep came with - continental 215/60 R 17 - on the standard 17" alloys. i want to change these, i'm thinking either:
1 - bigger alloys and road tyres to fill the wheel arches better and give it a better stance but more road like look... OR
2 - keep the 17" alloys and go with bigger tres, i love the white writing on the tyre wall look...

HOWEVER, things to take in to consideration:
- my wife drives the jeep all week
- we do lots of road miles and camping trips and towing caravans, the tyres HAVE to work on the road

Is there any set up that may work????????

oh, and i LOVE black alloys, any suggestions would be massively appreciated!!!!!!

THANKS

if you stick with the 17" rims, you cand comfortably go with a 225/65-17 without rubbing. yokohama sells a geolander ats that a lot of people favor for their patriots. Good on road feel with some off road ability. then paint your rims black.

I am lifted with 30" tires and wheel spacers, bigger tires/rims really adds to the look.

SUPERB THANKS! ... sorry to be thick, but what's lifted (apart from the obvious of course), i.e how do you do it? cost? parts needed?

whats your exact set up i really like that size / proportion - rims & tyres size please?

Thanks!

the red patriot pics are exactly what i want!! thanks.. so i start with the lift and then the tyres yokohama geolanders on my 17"'s but painted black...

next questions:
- how to paint alloys?? ive heard powder coating mentione - is this the correct way to re-paint alloys?
- if i wanted white writing on my tyres is there any other options to the geolanders? still road worthy though...

THANKS AGAIN

Sneak peak at my possible setup... (it is on jackstands in the pic) 18x9 Mustang Saleen replicas... The tires are for my car, will need taller ones if I decide to put them on the Jeep :D It will be a bit of a crap shoot to find tires that will work because I don't believe anybody has gone 9" wide on a Patriot yet. Maybe 255/50s

More of a street look for sure, but I am ok with the Patriot not being a real Jeep. I mean it comes with a CVT... c'mon! I call it my minivan :p

I have 245 wide tires with 1.25" spacers on the stock rims (30" total diameter) and that width is really pusing it. I don't rub anymore, after lift, but I rubbed for sure at full lock both front and back and on that pinch weld at about 50% turn. and I only have this much space between the struts and the tire:

This is the pinch weld I rubbed on:

This is a good tool, I really would not go any bigger than 28.5x9 on the stock rims. and it is not physically possible to fit a bigger than 30 tire in there mine are a little more than 9.5" wide and I HAD to push them out with spacers on the stock rims, a different set of rims that pushes it out would work as well.

that converter says my tire is 29.5, but I measured it with a tape and with tread it is closer to 30"

I am not concerned with large tires. Stock is roughly 27" so I am fine with anything that size or slightly larger. 255/50 R18 are 28.04"

In the pic I have 245/40R18 tires mounted which are slightly under 26" diameter. I have 2" (height) to the bottom spring mount and 1" (width) til I hit the strut. I know this is not a common setup on these vehicles but I believe it will work.

if the wheel is pushed out far enough, a 255 might work, but you'll hit that pinch weld, so you'll need to take care of it. I cut the plastic off with a box cutter and mashed it down with a hammer.
