What are your RPM's @ 70 MPH?

Khaki Patriot 4x4 Ltd. w/FDII

I'm curious about any gearing differences between the models (Compass, Patriot, 4x4, stick and auto).

I'm running exactly 3,000 RPM's at 70 MPH*. That's about 113 KPH for our metric-based friends.

* Speed verified

Bill

Seems high, I was just on the freeway going 70ish and I don't think I ever saw my RPM exceed 2500 while using cruise control. Maybe even lower than that. Compass CVT2 4x4

Yes - that's why I'm curious. Yours @ 2500 is about where I thought I'd be. Heck, my JK runs 2300 RPM's @ 70.

Is it because of the FDII?

FD II's are geared lower and yours sounds about right UTAH.

CVT's are:
FDII is 3.21:1
FD I is 2.41:1
5 Spd is 3.33:1 (I've seen a report that this may have changed in '08.)

Going with a taller tire will help a little and of course slowing down, but that may be hard to do in if you want to keep from getting run over.

Thanks. Good info.

The engine does seem right in the groove at 3,000 RPM's, it's smooth and still has plenty of headroom. And, it does not seem to be hurting MPG (which was @ 22.5 for the first tank). I figure I'll probably get around 24 MPG once it breaks in. It's just revving higher than I'm used to.

That's not bad at all for an FD II! Are you going down hill both ways?

Awww... just using the cruise as much as possible and driving relatively sanely.

So does mine (about 3000+ rpm at 70). They must have changed the gear ratios on the 2008 5-speed.
Can any other 07 and 08 5-speeders chime in?-

It looks like the final drive ratio on the 5 speed went from 4.12 in '07 to 3.91 in '08. Here's the '08 specs:

http://www.jeep.com/en/2008/patriot/# Features and Specs, Technical Data.

Assuming they kept the same trans ratios:

1st - 3.77
2nd - 2.16
3rd - 1.41
4th - 1.026
5th - 0.81
Transaxle Ratio - 4.12 ('07); 3.91 ('08)

This calculates out to 15.53:1 in low and 3.33 in high for '07; 14.74 in low and 3.16 in high for '08.
