It is just the letter distinction aka name that Chrysler uses for the Jeep Compass/Patriot platform.

Check out wikipedia or allpar for a list of the past and current models.

'07 Compass -> I apologize to the next owner.

"MK" is the 'model designation' of the platform for the Compass and Patriot. just as a "TJ" is a 97-06 Wrangler, an "XJ" is a 84-01 Cherokee and so on.

sorry for the "", there's only been about 10 THREADS asking this same question.......

Tommy, unofficially, rumor has it that the design team stepped back after many long nights of designing the Patriot and the Compass and exclaimed, "That's My Kinda Jeep!", so they designated it the MK! Don't quote me on that, it's strictly, off the record....

the more hardcore Jeepers call it the (M)all (K)rusier because they don't have any respect for the Compass/Patriot

seems to me that a patriot with its stability control would be much better off road than a Cherokee straight out of the factory. Especially in really slippery situations where the two Cherokee wheels without traction will just spin

I'll accept Mall Kruiser level 5. It least I can afford the gas to get there.

I can't attest to off road abilities, no ATV parks around here but with ice and snow they hold the road a lot better than those who put us down. Lots of the more traditional Jeep owners own MK's too. And not all Cherokees were 4 wheel drive either. So

They're all two wheel drive, the two wheels with no traction are the only ones that get power

Lets not turn a good natured thread into a flame fest or it will be locked down.
